Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a new color variant of the PlayStation 5 for the Japanese market: the " PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Midnight Black (Japanese-Language Only )."
The suggested retail price is 55,000 yen (tax included), and it will go on sale on Thursday, November 19, 2026.
The “PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Midnight Black (Japanese-Language Only)” is set to launch!
The " PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Midnight Black (Japan-Exclusive) " is a new color variation of the "PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (Japan-Exclusive)" released in November 2025.
It features a distinctive, rich shade of black as its base color, and when paired with “Midnight Black” peripherals—such as the already available “PlayStation Portal Remote Player”—it creates a cohesive design.
This product is the Digital Edition, which features an 825GB SSD and does not include a disc drive.
While retaining the PS5’s core features—such as the ultra-fast SSD, 3D audio, backward compatibility with PS4, and the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the DualSense wireless controller— this model has been customized for the Japanese market in certain specifications.
It can only be used with a PlayStation account where the "Language" is set to "Japanese" and the "Country/Region" is set to "Japan," and its use is limited to within Japan.
The “Midnight Black Disc Drive,” which matches the console’s color, is also being released simultaneously.
On Thursday, November 19, 2026, the “Midnight Black Disc Drive,” which matches the console’s color, will also go on sale.
By attaching it to the PS5 console, you can play games on physical discs.
The suggested retail price is 11,980 yen (tax included).
Pre-orders begin on Tuesday, October 20!
Pre-orders for the “PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Midnight Black (Japan-Only)” and the “Disc Drive Midnight Black” will begin sequentially starting Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at PlayStation retailers and online stores in Japan.
Additionally, these consoles are eligible for the “PS5 Digital Edition (Japan-Exclusive)” New Purchase Campaign, which extends the standard one-year manufacturer’s warranty by one year.
