On Monday, March 1, 2021, the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF), known as the governing body of e-sports in Asia, announced that it will co-host the "Road to Asian Games" qualifiers and series of activities at the 2022 Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China. Road to Asian Games" qualifiers and a series of activities with " The Olympic Council of Asia " (OCA) at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
In addition, the OCA will appoint the AESF to be in charge of all technical aspects of the eSports events at the 2022 Asian Games.

Signing Ceremony between OCA and AESF

The OCA signed a contract with the AESF, giving it the lead for all events from the regional qualifiers to the finals, including the "Road to the Asian Games" qualifiers.
In addition, the AESF and OCA will determine the event titles for the 2022 Asian Games.
The OCA and AESF will host e-sports events not only at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, but also at the subsequent Nagoya 2026 Asian Games and Doha 2030 Asian Games.
The AESF has also added a VR and virtual sports section to the "Road to Asian Games" qualifiers, which will be simulated at the finals. We hope that this will be an opportunity to expand the activities of e-sports beyond console and smartphone games.

Aiming to expand e-sports to the entire world

Since e-sports will be the first official medal sport at the 2022 Asian Games, we are treading on the assumption that it will be a stepping stone to future Olympic events.
We hope that not only the Asian Games, but also the Olympic Games in the near future will host an "e-sports" event for the entire world to participate in.
