Average age 65 years old or older! Japan's first senior esports professional team "Matagi Snipers" is born in Akita Prefecture!

News

eSports is now well established in Japan.
Prize money tournaments are held for various genres of games, and many professional e-sports players have emerged to make a living from e-sports.
Did you know that Japan's first e-sports team was newly established in Akita Prefecture?
What makes it a Japanese first is that the average age of the team is over 65! Japan's first professional senior e-sports team has been born!

The name of the team is "Matagi Snipers".

Japan's first senior e-sports professional team was born in Akita Prefecture, the "Matagi Snipers "!
The team will be managed by S2 Corporation, which is headquartered in Akita Prefecture and has been instrumental in the development of e-sports in Akita Prefecture, including managing the first professional e-sports team in the Tohoku region, the Akita Rising Wars, and providing gaming PCs to the Nikaho High School. It is certain that the team will not only be a hot topic.
The name "Matagi Snipers" comes from the word " matagi," which refers to hunters who made their living by hunting bears and other large beasts.
If you want to know what kind of job it is, read the manga "Matagi" by Takao Yaguchi! It is a masterpiece!
The competition will be based on the popular battle royale game " Fortnite, " so the name "Snipers" is also fitting.
Kohei Sudo, the president of S2, Inc. also commented on the birth of "Matagi Snipers.

We believe that the birth of Japan's first professional senior e-sports team from Akita Prefecture, where the population is aging more rapidly than any other prefecture in Japan, is of great significance.
We have entered the e-sports market in earnest from 2019, but we do not want e-sports for the elderly to be merely a means of "health" or "prevention of dementia," but rather a means of fostering a cross-generational regional community by aiming to be "a presence that grandchildren will take notice of. We hope to foster a cross-generational community by making e-sports "something that grandchildren can look up to.

A decade ago, table games such as Mahjong, Go, and Shogi were the standard, but the world of e-sports requires even more instantaneous decision-making.
It seems that we can expect more "health" and "prevention of dementia" for seniors, and since they are "professionals" above all, it would be a good thing if they can earn money from their performance in the distribution and competitions!
Let's keep an eye on the future development!

We are looking for members over 65 years old living in Akita!

Matagi Snipers" is currently recruiting members.
As a professional senior e-sports team, you must be 65 years old or older as of June 1, 2011, live in Akita Prefecture, and be able to attend practice sessions of around 3 hours several times a month.
Practices will be held at the AeSU Training Center ( Akita Sky Plaza 1F, 3-3-10 Nakadori, Akita City), but participants can also participate from home if they have internet access and the necessary equipment.
Inland areas of Akita Prefecture are particularly snowy, and it can be difficult to travel to Akita City for practice in the winter.
If you live in an area that is a distance from Akita City, it may be a good idea to set up an environment at home.
If you are thinking, "I am the one! " you may apply as soon as possible, but some people may want to wait until they know what they are actually going to be doing.
For those who do, there will be an information session at the AeSU Training Center!
The most recent session will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., and subsequent sessions will be held on an as-needed basis, so if you are interested, please join us.
The application period for members is until Tuesday, August 31, 2021.
We look forward to the day when Japan's first and the world's fifth professional team of senior citizens, the "Matagi Snipers," will be active on the world stage!
