Epic Games has announced that the PvE mode Fortnite: Save the World will become free-to-play starting Thursday, April 16, 2026.
Pre-registration is currently open for players on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Cloud, and Nintendo Switch 2.
By registering, you can receive in-game rewards such as Save the World heroes at launch, so be sure to sign up early!
Distribution of Gratitude Rewards to Existing Players and Temporary Suspension of New Purchases

In gratitude to existing players who have been saving the world for nine years, Superchargers, Vouchers, and Gold will be gifted on Thursday, April 16, 2026 (US time).
Furthermore, Founders who have already purchased the paid version can reportedly continue to earn V-Bucks through missions including:
- Daily Quests
- Mission Alerts
- Storm Shield Defense Missions
- Existing Challenges
In addition, in preparation for the free-to-play transition, new purchases of Save the World were suspended starting on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
Existing players can continue to play as usual.
