Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced the termination of the PlayStation Store content purchase service for PlayStation 3 (PS3), PlayStation Vita (PS Vita), and PlayStation Portable (PSP). It is still fresh in our minds that the company announced the termination of new content purchase service on PlayStation Store for PS3, PS Vita, and PSP.
This has caused a huge impact not only on users but also on developers, especially indie game developers, as they will no longer be able to purchase new game titles and media content from the PS Store after the service is terminated.
Even though the focus is on next-generation consoles such as PS4 and PS5, it is still sad to lose the ability to play many attractive titles, and many people have taken this opportunity to purchase downloadable titles.
However, SIE has now announced that the PS Store purchase service will continue for PS3 and PS Vita!
PS3 and PS Vita will continue! But PSP will end as planned!
SEA President and CEO Jim Ryan posted on the PlayStation Blog that the company initially decided to end content sales for PS3 and PS Vita due to challenges with sales support on the older platforms and to focus resources on current consoles.
However, after realizing that many players strongly desire to continue purchasing games on PS3 and PS Vita, the company announced that it has decided to find a solution to continue.
As a result, the PS Store will continue to offer PS3 and PS Vita purchase services!
We can't be anything but happy that you will continue to be able to purchase classic PS3 and PS Vita titles!
However, the PSP purchase service will end on July 2, 2021 (Friday) as planned.
It is a great pity, but the original PSP hardware was released in 2004. Considering that, it has served us well up to this point!
