During the " The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct: September 8, 2026 " broadcast, Nintendo announced that the title of the live-action " The Legend of Zelda " movie currently in production has been finalized as simply " The Legend of Zelda," without a subtitle.
It is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on Thursday, April 30, 2027.

The live-action film "The Legend of Zelda" is being produced jointly by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc.
Nintendo will cover more than 50% of the film’s production costs, while Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. will handle worldwide distribution and co-financing.


Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo andAvi Arad, CEO of Arad Productions Inc., will serve as co-producers.
Wes Ball, director of the “Maze Runner” series and “Planet of the Apes: Kingdom,” will direct the film.

It has been reaffirmed that Bo Bragason will play Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link.


During the broadcast, Shigeru Miyamoto commented on the reason for not including a subtitle in the title, saying, “I think you’ll understand once you see the movie.”
He also noted that the film will feature a unique story of its own, based on the many series, stories, ideas, and worlds that have been built up over 40 years through the games.


There are about eight months left until the film’s release at the end of April 2027.
