Diver-X Corporation ( "Diver-X") aims to create a world where people can maximize their actions and experiences while in their basal state.
Our mission has been to create new experiences by maximizing the advantages of the device, which is optimized for sleeping, and by implementing many functions and interfaces that have been discarded in the trade-off of miniaturization and weight reduction.
Finally, we have announced " HalfDive," the world's first VR device optimized for use while sleeping.
Features of "HalfDive," a device used while sleeping
Most current VR head-mounted displays (hereinafter referred to as "VR HMDs") are designed to be used while moving around, and as such, they are required to be compact and lightweight. However, under such constraints, hardware advances have been limited to improvements in resolution and tracking accuracy, which have been accompanied by improvements in semiconductor performance.
HalfDive" overcomes most of these limitations by being a fully stationary device optimized for use while sleeping.
Unique optical system compatible with the variable focus function that realizes an unparalleled viewing angle and visual beauty
There are limits to the optics that can be implemented in a limited space and weight.
HalfDive overcame these limitations by incorporating a total of 10 aspherical lenses to solve the problems of existing optical systems using Fresnel lenses, such as distortion, flare, and image degradation, while realizing an optical system that can achieve both an ultra-high viewing angle of up to approximately 134 degrees and clear images.
In addition, taking advantage of the minimal space limitation, the variable focus function is also supported.
(Variable focus function will be available only on the top-end model.)
Immersive sound system with a spherical enclosure
A total of four speakers located inside a spherical housing that can cover the entire head provide a high-quality, comfortable immersive sound experience.
Force feedback using wires
The force feedback module using wires expresses the sensation of touching things, cutting with a sword, and friction in the VR space, providing an immersive experience of a higher rank.
Force feedback with two fans
Two fans mounted on the head provide a more immersive VR experience.
The fans also have a silent mode that can be used simply to keep the wearer comfortable by blowing air.
Vibration feedback using exciter
A force feedback module using wires provides a more immersive experience by expressing the sensation of touching an object, cutting with a sword, or friction in the VR space.
Vibration feedback using exciters allows the sound of monster footsteps, gunshots, and environmental sounds to be conveyed to the wearer more realistically, enhancing the immersive experience.
Foot controller and emulation system to compensate for immobility
The tilt of the left and right ankles emulates the avatar's body movements, allowing the wearer to express body movements as well as or better than standing, even when lying down.
(e.g. crouching depending on the ankle tilt). The proprietary driver and emulation make it compatible with all existing SteamVR content.
What is the price?
The expected retail price is around 90,000 for the basic model, 130,000 for the full set, and 300,000 for the model with variable focus function support.
Since it has just been announced, we will keep checking back for further developments.
