I-O DATA DEVICE, INC. (hereinafter I-O DATA) reached its 50th anniversary on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
To mark this milestone year, future initiatives were announced at the I-O DATA DEVICE 50th Anniversary Press Conference.
In particular, it was revealed that the gaming monitor brand GigaCrysta would expand into three new series, a development many have been eagerly waiting for.
From that GigaCrysta brand, the LCD-GDU271JLAQD, a 4K Mini LED gaming monitor and the first entry in the top-tier GigaCrysta S series, has been announced!
Hands-on Experience with the LCD-GDU271JLAQD!
We were invited to a new product preview event and got to experience the actual unit up close.
The LCD-GDU271JLAQD, appearing in commemoration of I-O DATA's 50th anniversary, is a high-end model that brings together all their expertise to date.
First, let's look at the basic specs.
27-Inch With 4K/180Hz to FHD/360Hz and 0.5ms Response Time
The 27-inch panel utilizes the IPS (HFS) method with wide viewing angles of 178 degrees vertically and horizontally.
It is equipped with a Dual Frame Rate function, allowing it to switch between a resolution of 3,840×2,160(4K) at a 180Hz refresh rate or a resolution of 1,920×1,080(FHD) at a 360Hz refresh rate.
The response time is 0.5ms (GTG), and it features two HDMI ports and one DisplayPort port.
...And while those are the basic specs, one of the features the product manager wants to promote most is Mini LED.
Strength in Light and Dark Expression With Mini LED
In recent years, the name Mini LED is often heard regarding high-end gaming monitors.
This refers to the backlight method behind the panel. In entry-level models, the edge-lit method is common, where LEDs are placed only at the edges of the screen and the light is reflected to illuminate the entire screen.
On the other hand, the Mini LED backlight equipped in the LCD-GDU271JLAQD works by lining up a large number of tiny LED lights directly behind the screen to illuminate it, allowing for more detailed expression of light and dark.
Furthermore, this model supports local dimming in 2304ZONE, where a single panel can be controlled across 2,304 zones.
As a disadvantage, the main unit is very thick and hot.
Because of the space needed to align the Mini LEDs and to ensure airflow, the unit is quite thick and hefty.
The size without the stand and excluding protrusions is approx. 614×66×372mm (W×D×H).
Also, lighting up so many Mini LEDs requires that much more power.
To support a power consumption of 29.8W during normal use and a maximum of 120W, the AC adapter is also impressive.
As you can see, even when compared to the author's personal ROG Phone 8 (height 163.8mm x width 76.8mm), the adapter is quite large.
That said, it is something one can tolerate to support these kinds of specs.
GigaCrysta S Series to Support Advance Replacement Service
I-O DATA is known for its reliable support system typical of Japanese manufacturers, such as its zero bright pixel warranty and customer support.
In addition, a new GigaCrysta Advance Replacement Service has been introduced for the GigaCrysta S series, which develops flagship models.
This is a system where, if the product fails during the warranty period, a replacement unit arrives at your home first by applying through a dedicated form.
The exchange is completed by handing over the faulty product to a delivery service arranged separately.
If you have to hand over the faulty product first, there will be a period when you cannot use the monitor, and just preparing a cardboard box large enough for a big gaming monitor is a struggle in itself.
This is a complete support system that solves such consumer concerns all at once.
Shipping Scheduled for Around Mid-March
The LCD-GDU271JLAQD, the culmination of technology I-O DATA has cultivated over 50 years, is scheduled for shipment around mid-March 2026.
