First in Japan! JCB has started issuing numberless cards with QR codes for secure authentication!

Release

Recently, credit cards have become popular and can be used in many places for payment. Credit cards may have the image of being used to purchase expensive items, but credit cards are increasingly being used to settle everyday shopping and small purchases.

Credit cards used to include a card number, expiration date, and security code, but recently there has been an increase in " numberless cards," which require a minimum amount of card information.
However, recently, numberless cards, which contain a minimum of card information, have been on the rise. With conventional cards, there is always the risk that the card information can be stolen or that the physical card can be passed on to a third party.

In this issue, we would like to introduce the " JCB Numberless Card," a card that places emphasis on usability and security among the numberless cards.

What is the JCB Numberless Card?

PR TIMES

The JCB Numberless Card is a "double-sided numberless card" with no card number or security code printed on the front or back of the card.
This means that card information is not exposed to a third party in the event of loss of the physical card or when making a credit card transaction, and can be used safely and securely.

The card number and security code can be checked at any time via the dedicated "MyJCB" application, making online shopping a stress-free experience.

Unlike debit cards, which are linked to your bank balance, the MyJCB application allows you to use your credit card with peace of mind, even if you are afraid you might overspend. Unlike a debit card, which is linked to the balance of a bank account, this function can be used without anxiety.

When applying for a card, you can also choose a type of card that prints a conventional card number on the face of the card, allowing you to select the card that best suits your lifestyle.

A card with enhanced security and usability through the implementation of a dedicated QR code

While the general numberless card does not have a card number printed on the face of the card, which improves security, it has the demerit of not being able to perform various procedures if the member loses or forgets his/her member ID or password as a means of inquiring about the card number.

The JCB Numberless Card has a dedicated QR code on the back of the card as an alternative means of authentication, such as a one-time password, or to prevent dead ends in situations where the card number or other information must be entered.

This QR code is a special QR code that cannot be read by camera applications or general QR code readers, and is a secure QR code that can only be read by the "MyJCB App", a members-only web service.
In addition to the conventional analog authentication methods, such as oral authentication over the phone or authentication using documents with a unique customer number, etc., the JCB Numberless Card allows authentication to be completed online by reading the QR Code.
QR codes can also be used for authentication when logging in to the "MyJCB App" for the first time, or when logging in to a new device when changing handsets.
