GameWith Inc. began offering a fixed IP service for subscribers of their gaming internet lines "GameWith Hikari 1G" and "10G" starting on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
Background of Service Launch
In recent years, the number of users playing online games has continued to increase. According to GameWith's survey, approximately 85% of gamers play games online.
GameWith focused on the needs for a fixed IP address when playing online games, as well as the desire to host personal servers and invite other players.
They have newly launched a service that allows the use of IPv4 fixed addresses (IPv4 Over IPv6 (IPIP method)) for their gaming-specific fiber optic service, "GameWith Hikari."

Benefits of Using Fixed IP Service
Using a fixed IP service when playing online games offers three significant benefits. Let's look at each one.
No Port Limit
The first benefit is that using a fixed IP address eliminates address translation, allowing you to utilize up to 65,535 ports, which is the maximum port limit.
In situations with many simultaneous connections, such as playing games while using external chat tools and watching streams, game lag or disconnections may occur.
This is because IPoE (IPv4 over IPv6) uses shared IPv4 addresses, which limits the number of available ports and port numbers.
This limitation can be resolved by using a fixed IP service, which might be welcome news for streamers already broadcasting.
Port Forwarding Supported
The second benefit is that in addition to the IPv4 address being fixed, the port number limitations are also removed, making port forwarding possible.
Variable IP address services may have IP addresses that change each time.
Also, with IPoE, there were limitations on available port numbers, which prevented necessary port forwarding for some games.
By using a fixed IP service, you can now fully enjoy games that require port forwarding.
Please note that port forwarding may pose security risks.
We do not recommend port forwarding, so please proceed at your own risk and with extreme caution.
Public Server Operation
The third benefit is that you can use your PC as a public server.
If you set up a home server to play with friends, a fixed IP address eliminates the need for players to constantly check the IP address when connecting, allowing for a smoother gaming experience.
For some online games, using a home server can expand in-game possibilities, and for streamers, allowing viewers to access their server might even help boost their game streams.
