The game development company "Wizards of the Coast" has announced that it will release six new sets for the strategic trading card game " Magic: The Gathering " in 2027.
In addition, details were released regarding the official fan event “MagicCon” and the latest information on a new set scheduled for release in the second half of 2026.

"Wizards of the Coast," the creator of the world’s first trading card game, " Magic: The Gathering," has designated 2027 as "The Year of the Gathering" and announced plans to release new sets and host fan events!
In addition to the release of a total of six sets—alternating between those set in the Multiverse and the “Universe Beyond” sets— the official fan event “MagicCon” will be held in four cities worldwide, including Japan.
In addition, the latest information on the new sets “Reality Fracture” and “Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit,” set to be released in the second half of 2026, has also been unveiled!

Featuring a diverse cast of sea dwellers—including merfolk and homalids—the set tells the story of unexpected heroes against the backdrop of tensions between two warring kingdoms.
"Kamigawa: The Invasion of the Behemoths" on sale Friday, June 4, 2027
A major set in which the behemoths of the plane "Ikoria" invade the popular plane "Kamigawa."
Players will pilot giant mechs and choose whether to defend their homeland or fight alongside the behemoths.
Battles on an unprecedented scale will unfold.
"Zalfer" on sale Friday, October 1, 2027
"The Kingdom of Zhalfar" returns to the Multiverse as a standalone plane.

"Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit"
This latest set depicts the epic journey from the Shire to the Mountains.
It marks a return to Middle-earth, following the 2023 release of “The Lord of the Rings: Legends of Middle-earth.”

The headliner card, “Smaug the Magnificent, ” features a shimmering gold finish.
It is adorned with meticulously detailed artwork by Ted Nasmith and a frame created by a select group of booster fan designers.
This card is limited to approximately 500 copies and will appear in Collector Boosters in all language editions (the card itself is in English only).
Additionally, book cover cards are introduced to give the set the feel of a nostalgic novel.
They feature stylish artwork and rule text designed to complement it.
Five different Dwarvish-language cards —Magic: The Gathering cards translated into Dwarvish—are also making their debut!
Famous cards from Magic’s history now feature scenes from *The Hobbit*.
"Dragon's Treasure" frame edition cards, featuring popular characters and iconic scenes from *The Hobbit* set within a special frame inspired by Smaug, are also available.

Jace has embraced a new identity as “The Theorist” and rules the Mimicverse as a designer who sees through all reality.
In this set, popular characters and cards appear in new forms, distorted to align with Jace’s ideals.

One card depicts the Multiverse, while the other depicts the Mimic Universe.
