Square Enix has posted a notice titled " Important Notice RegardingUnauthorizedAccess and Account Management " on "The Lodestone," the official player site for " Final Fantasy XIV."
Square Enix reports that unauthorized logins to Square Enix accounts have occurred and is urging users to manage their accounts securely.
Be Aware of Unauthorized Logins to Your Square Enix Account.
According to Square Enix, cases of unauthorized logins have been confirmed using combinations of email addresses, account IDs, and passwords that are believed to have been leaked from other companies’ online services.
The company urges users to change their passwords immediately if they are using the same combination as on other services, a pattern of repeated letters or numbers, or a password that is easy to guess—such as a date of birth.
The company is implementing login restrictions on accounts suspected of having been compromised and is working to prevent further damage.
If your account is restricted, you can log in by resetting your password following the instructions in the email sent to your registered email address.
Additionally, using a one-time password —which is valid only for a limited time and becomes invalid after a single use—significantly enhances security against unauthorized access.
The company explains that if unauthorized access continues to increase, it may implement a password reset for all Square Enix accounts.
