On Thursday, February 27, 2025, the Nintendo Switch exclusive FPS game "World at War: Normandy" will be available on the Nintendo eShop. In this game, players will be able to advance to the next special mission by grasping the missions in each game mode and participating in the battle by using precise aiming and maneuvering in a vast open field.
PR TIMESOn June 6, 1944, Omaha Beach was the scene of the most intense fighting of the Normandy landings. This 10-kilometer stretch of coastline was surrounded by 30-meter cliffs on which the Germans had built a strong defensive position.
At 6:30 a.m., soldiers from the 1st U.S. Infantry Division and the 29th Infantry Division began landing. However, what awaited them was a furious counterattack by the Germans.
Many soldiers lost their lives before they could leave their landing craft, and those who did make it to the beach were stranded before the concentrated fire of the Germans. The beaches were lined with mines and barbed wire, and soldiers had to cross 200 to 300 yards of unprotected sandy beach.
The Germans used 88mm anti-tank guns and 75mm field guns to destroy landing craft and armored vehicles one after another. In addition, the Germans fired accurately from hidden positions on the bluff, targeting American commanders and radio operators.
Mortar units also continued to fire incessantly at the soldiers who had landed on the beach. However, a small group of brave soldiers tried to break through the defensive line through the hail of bullets.
Their bravery had the potential to prevent a catastrophic failure of the operation. The battle of the day was expected to involve many casualties, but it could lead to the establishment of an important bridgehead for the Allied forces.
A historic battle, with the potential to become a turning point in World War II, was about to begin.
