We conducted an interview with OHITTOU (@ohittou), who won the main tournament of EVO Japan 2026, a fighting game festival held at Tokyo Big Sight from Friday, May 1, to Sunday, May 3, 2026, for UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys:Celes (hereinafter UNI2)!
In this article, we bring you the interview conducted in Japanese translated into English.
Exclusive Interview With OHITTOU, Winner of UNI2!
― Please give us your thoughts once again.
OHITTOU: I have never had the experience of winning on such a large stage before, so I am truly happy.
― You have challenged EVO many times before, and you are finally the champion.
OHITTOU: Until now, I felt a gap between myself and people like Kyo or Senaru, but with this result, I feel like I have finally stood on equal footing with them!
― We could hear passionate voices from the gallery during the matches.
OHITTOU: I am on good terms with all the top players (laughs).
― UNI2 has returned as a main tournament title.
OHITTOU: Last year we lost out to other competitive titles, so I am nothing but happy that we were added as a main title again this year.
― Were there parts you worked hard on heading toward EVO Japan 2026?
OHITTOU: There was a part of me that was playing intensely for Arc World Tour 2025-2026, but it was good because I was able to leave a result at EVO Japan 2026 as the culmination of this past year.
I want to continue doing my best.
― How will you use the prize money?
OHITTOU: I spent too much money traveling to overseas tournaments last year, so I suppose it will be used to compensate for that (laughs).
― It was a tournament decided in a single day; did your physical strength and concentration hold up?
OHITTOU: I was able to take a long break in the middle, so I was able to see it through to the end.
― Finally, please give a word to the people who supported you and the comrades you practiced with!
OHITTOU: While I was sometimes called a favorite to win, I wasn't quite able to leave results as I had hoped.
This time, I am truly happy to be able to win on the EVO Japan stage.
Thank you very much for your support!
