Taito Corporation announced the results of a survey regarding "Sports and Esports (Games)" targeting Gen Z (ages 15 to 28).
The purpose of this survey was to “clarify the frequency of use, how they enjoy, and the attitudes of Gen Z towards ‘exercise/sports’ (hereinafter, sports) and ‘games/esports’ (hereinafter, esports),” and it was conducted in conjunction with the opening of the new sports entertainment facility, "BOOTVERSE."

More than half of the respondents reported engaging in sports and esports at a frequency of "once a month or more," and it was revealed that approximately one in four core gamers play esports "almost every day."
Also, the results showed a difference in that esports is mainly enjoyed alone, while sports are enjoyed with multiple people.

When men and women of Gen Z aged 15 to 28 were asked how often they play esports and sports, the result was that both were "once a month or more" for over half of the respondents.
However, it seems more people play sports than esports.
The survey found that approximately one in four core gamers play esports "almost every day."

Overall, those who answered that they like sports (39.5%) outnumbered those who answered that they like esports (33.6%).
On the other hand, the trend was divided by gender, with more men preferring esports (37.9%) and more women preferring sports (45.9%).

When playing esports, enjoying alone (41.8%) was the most common answer.
Being able to enjoy it online with players around the world is a strength of esports.
However, there is also a tendency for teenagers to want to enjoy it with friends or in groups.

For sports, enjoying with multiple friends or in a group (2 to 4 or more people) (41.5%) was higher than enjoying alone (28.5%), a result different from esports.
Unlike esports, which can be enjoyed alone online, sports still often require people to gather and play together.

More Than Half of Gen Z Respondents Feel They Lack Exercise

When asked, "Do you feel a lack of exercise recently?", more than half of the respondents answered that they "feel a lack of exercise."
It was also found that women (66.3%) feel a lack of exercise more than men (46.4%).

The Most Common Reason for Not Doing "Exercise/Sports" is "It's Too Much Trouble or Painful to Exercise"

When respondents who "feel a lack of exercise" were asked why they do not participate in sports, the following answers were obtained: "It's too much trouble or painful to exercise" (45.0%), "I don't have time" (41.4%), and "There is no place or facility to exercise" (32.0%).
Although the number of gyms and training facilities/services that people can easily visit has increased recently, the hurdle to exercise still seems high.

Teens Emphasize the “Entertaining Nature of Fun Exercise,” 20s Emphasize “Being Simple and Easy to Start”

Furthermore, the trend revealed that teenagers seek entertainment value, while people in their 20s seek a low barrier to entry.
