Special Interview (Excerpt)
Please share your honest thoughts on being appointed as an official supporter for TGS 2026.
Toshiya Miyata: When it comes to TGS, it’s an event that game lovers simply can’t get enough of—with the latest information on new games being announced one after another and creators from all over the world gathering together.
I’ve always been a huge fan of games myself, so I’m still in a state of disbelief that I’ve been entrusted with the role of Official Supporter.
While keeping the perspective of a game fan in mind, I’ll do my absolute best to share the appeal of TGS with as many people as possible!
For this special 30th anniversary, I want to work with all of you to make TGS 2026 the best event ever!
What’s your favorite game?
Toshiya Miyata: I’ve loved RPGs ever since I was a kid—that hasn’t changed.
I also enjoy games where you raise and train characters, like the Pokémon series.
Lately, I’ve been really into “Pokémon UNITE.” I’ve mentioned this everywhere, but I’m probably the best player in the entertainment industry!
I’m so into it that I’m ready to say, “Anyone in the entertainment industry, I’m always up for a challenge!”
How did you first get into gaming?
Toshiya Miyata: When I was in the lower grades of elementary school, I was hospitalized for a few days, and during that time, my grandmother bought me a Game Boy and “Mario.”
I think my first encounter with video games was playing on that gray Game Boy—the kind that took four batteries—during my free time while I was in the hospital.
Do you have any memories of playing games with your family?
Toshiya Miyata: Ever since I was a kid, my family and I used to play “Puyo Puyo” together.
Also, my dad had a job where he’d already left for work by the time I woke up in the morning and wouldn’t come home until after I’d gone to bed. But whenever I set a new record in “Mario Kart” Time Attack, he’d beat it while I was asleep.
Wanting to beat that, I’d play again at noon, and then after I went to sleep at night, my dad would beat my time—that’s how our days went.
We didn’t really talk much face-to-face, but I remember playing with my dad through video games, and I think we built a good relationship even without talking.
It’s such a heartwarming story that I’m actually hoping someone will turn it into an indie game (lol)!
How do you spend your days off?
Toshiya Miyata: My routine is to wake up in the morning, play a quick match of “Pokémon UNITE” right from under the covers, then start drinking coffee—that’s when my day really begins.
Also, I went to Akihabara with Tamamori, one of my bandmates, to buy a gaming PC. We got a pretty decent one, so I’ve been playing games like “Genshin Impact” on it. (Genshin Impact) is really a game for science-minded people, isn’t it?
There’s a lot of multiplication and stuff like that, so I really enjoy the time I spend playing while thinking about those calculations.
Do you ever feel like your circle of friends is expanding through gaming?
Toshiya Miyata: Yeah, there are people who are really into games, and lately, there are so many games you can play together online, right?
I feel like my circle of friends is expanding because of that, too.
I often play “Monster Hunter” with Tamamori, one of the members. I’m not very good at FPS games, but when he said, “Let’s play ‘Apex Legends’!” I gave it a try.
Since I get taken out right away (laughs), there are a lot of times when I’m just watching Tamamori play—it’s like I’m his girlfriend sitting next to him while he plays, thinking, “Tamamori is so amazing.”
It’s fun just watching him play.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Tokyo Game Show and the 15th anniversary of Kis-My-Ft2—a very special year. How do you feel about being appointed as an official supporter?
Toshiya Miyata: We’re only halfway there, but I’m really happy that our anniversaries coincide. Above all, it’s truly amazing that the event has continued for 30 years, so I’d like to take this opportunity to say, “Congratulations” once again.
We’re also planning to release a number of video features starring Toshiya Miyata to build excitement leading up to TGS.
