When traveling long distances, summoning the Spectral Steed, Torrent, allows for swift traversal much faster than sprinting on foot.

For instance, the Tree Sentinel patrolling Limgrave is an exceptionally difficult adversary for an early-game character.
Because the order of battles is entirely free, you can choose to bypass him at first and return to challenge him after growing stronger.
