Tokyo Game Show 20 23 (TGS2023), one of Japan's largest game festivals, took place in September 2023! TGS2023 was held offline again, as last year, and gamers gathered at Makuhari Messe. At TGS2023, not only new titles from game companies are exhibited, but also games created by individuals and games created by students who want to make games for game companies in the future are exhibited. This time, we visited the Japan Electronics College, which exhibited at the Game Academy Corner.
The "AimRacing" racing game series has been a highlight of the event every year for generations.
I had the pleasure of visiting the booth of the Japan Electronics College! The first thing that caught my attention was the large seat, steering wheel, and a large monitor showing a very realistic racing game! It is a racing game series called " AimRacing," which has been passed down from one year to the next from successive generations of students, and is said to be a traditional series of JECC. The content of the game is to compete for the fastest time by controlling your own car on a mountain pass on a real road.
For TGS2023, the production team focused on "car behavior," and while the visual quality was of course very high, last year they introduced a unit under the seat that expresses the shaking, vibration, and centrifugal force of the car, making the game experience even more realistic. This was done to create a game experience that is closer to the real thing.
In addition to the car behavior, the road in Okutama was used as a model for the course, reproducing the scenery and cracks in the road in great detail. The road signs and natural shadows of the trees also add to the realistic experience, making it feel as if you are actually driving. The control program was also created entirely by students.
This is the first time that the Japan Electronics College has exhibited at this event!
The Japan Electronics College has been exhibiting since the first show, and this year marks their 28th year. According to the Japan Electronics College, "Exhibiting at TGS is an important event that encourages students to grow dramatically and is also linked to job hunting. Therefore, the booths and games were very well organized.
The Japan Electronics College's exhibit continues to evolve each year! Let's look forward to the Japan Electronics College booth as one of the main attractions of TGS in the future! For more information on Japan Electronics College, please visit their official website.
