News

The Japan Game Awards 2020, organized by the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA), has announced that "Baba Is You", a puzzle game available on PC and Nintendo Switch, has won the Game Designers' Grand Prize. It was announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2020 online that "Baba Is You"", a puzzle game for PC and Nintendo Switch, won the Game Designers Award at the Japan Game Awards 2020.

"Baba Is You" is developed and published by Hempuli ( http://www.hempuli.com/ ), an indie game developer Arvi Teikari.
The game has won the Game Designers Award, which has made Twitter happy.

The reason for the award...?

The head of the Game Designers Award jury, Mr. Masahiro Sakurai (President of SOLA Ltd.), gave the reasons for the award.

Player characters are things that can walk. Enemies are things that cannot be touched. A wall is something to stop.
Water is something to swim or sink. The goal is beyond the difficulty.
This is a puzzle game in which the rules of the world, which are common sense and taken for granted in such games, are drastically changed.
When programming a game, you can sometimes produce unexpected results by giving the wrong roles to the wrong players.

The game design, which offers freedom from such common sense and the accompanying sense of funniness, is excellent and was selected for this Grand Prize without question.
