The Harder the Struggle, the More Memorable the Foe!
News

There are only a few days left in June 2024... which means the Famicom (Nintendo Entertainment System) 40th Anniversary, which began on Saturday, July 15, 2023, is finally nearing its end.
July 15 this year is a national holiday in Japan, and considering that the public release of the "Famicom Talk Shop Kobayashi Toy Store" is scheduled to conclude around Wednesday, July 10, 2024, it looks like there will be some kind of milestone in the second week of July.
If that's the case, the "Famicom National Poll," which has been conducted almost every week on various themes since Saturday, July 15, 2023, will likely only have a few more rounds left.
Since the "Famicom National Poll" has been an opportunity to unlock our memories and discover Famicom masterpieces we didn't know about, we would love for it to continue forever... but we can't just be sad!
The results for Vol. 49: What's the Game with the Best Enemies"? have been announced this week as well, so let's check out the results with excitement!

The results for "Famicom National Poll" Vol. 49: What's the Game with the Best Enemies"? have been announced, and the top 20 rankings are public on the Famicom 40th Anniversary Campaign Site!
The enemy characters in masterpiece titles are unique and appealing. Perhaps because of this, the votes were so scattered that even the 1st place winner received less than 10% of the votes this time.
Clinching 1st place in a close race was "Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen" with 8.3% of the votes! The author also voted for it!
Furthermore, "Dragon Quest" was 2nd, "Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation" was 4th, and "Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line" was 17th, meaning all numbered "Dragon Quest" titles released on the Famicom ranked in the results.
As you know, many of the characters in the "Dragon Quest" series, including the enemies, were handled by Akira Toriyama, and truly attractive characters, starting with the too-famous "Slime," were created by his hand.
Although Akira Toriyama passed away this March, the enemy characters created by him will continue to stand in the way of many heroes' adventures and help those heroes grow.
If you haven't played a single title in the "Dragon Quest" series yet, now is the perfect opportunity!
Many other titles with attractive enemy characters also ranked, and we could talk about each one endlessly, but perhaps the "ROCKMAN" series is special, with "Mega Man 2" ranking 5th, "Mega Man" ranking 7th, and "Mega Man 3" ranking 17th?
From the second installment in the series, "Mega Man 2," the "Mega Man" series began holding a Boss Character Design Contest, where the designs of the boss characters appearing in the game were openly solicited from the public.
Some characters were arranged based on the adopted designs, while others appeared with almost the same design due to their high quality. This is how the unique boss character designs were born.
It is a famous story that designs submitted by Yusuke Murata, known for "Eyeshield 21" and "One-Punch Man" (Tonari no Young Jump version), appeared as "Dust Man" in "Mega Man 4" and "Crystal Man" in "Mega Man 5"!
These two titles are also Famicom titles, so check them out!

Summer is Coming Soon! Voting Starts for What's the Game with Sea/Ships?

The end of Vol. 49 means that Vol. 50 has begun.
Voting for the milestone Vol. 50 "Famicom National Poll" started on Thursday, June 27, 2024! The theme this time is What's the Game with Sea/Ships?
Although it's the middle of the rainy season in the Kanto region, the high temperatures continue, so summer is right around the corner.
And when you think of summer, you think of the sea! When you think of the sea, you think of ships! So this theme is perfect for this time of year!
Sea stages are a staple in action games, and it's safe to say that most RPGs and simulation games feature ships.
In RPGs, getting a ship instantly expands your range of movement, so going somewhere you shouldn't be at that stage and getting wiped out by a powerful enemy is almost a classic tradition.
Since the theme has a quite wide scope, the votes might be split, but please cast a clean vote for a title featuring a memorable sea or ship!
You can vote again by logging in with your Nintendo Account on the campaign site's "Famicom National Poll" page.
Don't worry if you forget a title; candidates will pop up if you type in a part of the title.
The voting period for "Famicom National Poll" Vol. 50 is until 11:59 AM on Wednesday, July 3, 2024! The results are scheduled to be announced on Thursday, July 4, 2024!
The author voted for "Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation," where you get a ship in exchange for black pepper!
For the author, who only knew "table pepper" in childhood, I used to wonder what kind of wonderful thing black pepper was! Now, I like black pepper as much as the King of Portoga!
