SEGA Corporation and Netflix have announced a new partnership to adapt SEGA video games into film and television productions.
As the first project in this collaboration, a live-action film adaptation of Crazy Taxi has been greenlit.
In addition, adaptation projects for Sonic the Hedgehog and STRANGER THAN HEAVEN are currently in development.

SEGA and Netflix announced a new partnership to adapt SEGA games into film and television projects, revealing plans to move forward with adaptations across multiple titles from SEGA's catalog.

Spanning diverse genres and lineups, the collaboration will combine SEGA's signature breadth with Netflix's proven track record of bringing beloved gaming worlds to fresh audiences to develop adaptations together.

First Adaptation Confirmed as Live-Action Crazy Taxi Film

As the first project under this adaptation partnership, a live-action film adaptation of Crazy Taxi has been confirmed.
The adrenaline-fueled, high-octane driving action game that captivated the world is getting an exciting live-action movie adaptation.
With the latest installment in the series, Crazy Taxi: World Tour, slated for release in 2027, this movie greenlight is sure to rev up the engines of the franchise's popularity.

The screenplay will be written by the popular screenwriting duo Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, known for The Naked Gun (2025 reboot).
The film will be produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara, who previously worked on the Sonic the Hedgehog film series.

Projects for Sonic the Hedgehog and STRANGER THAN HEAVEN Also Underway

For Sonic the Hedgehog, Carlos Stevens and Toru Nakahara are currently developing a new animated series.
Aimed at an upper preschool audience, the series will depict the heroic exploits of Sonic and his friends, built for all kids seeking a high-voltage adventure and the wish-fulfilling feeling of "that's my crew."
Fans can also enjoy this alongside Sonic Prime, currently streaming on Netflix.

At the same time, a live-action film adaptation project is underway for STRANGER THAN HEAVEN.
Set in early 20th-century Japan, the story follows a figure rising to become a titan of the entertainment world.
While specific details remain under wraps, the live-action movie will bring this grand world to life from a fresh perspective.
Toru Nakahara will also serve as producer for this project.
