While the companies and organizational structure surrounding Evo have undergone rapid changes in recent years, this tournament proved to be a major success for the Japanese esports scene.
"Evo 2026" Main Tournament Results Summary!
Last year’s “Evo 2025” main tournament featured a total of 12,263 entrants across 8 titles, but this year’s “Evo 2026” main tournament saw a total of 8,926 entrants across 12 titles.
Evo, which has a history of over 20 years as one of the world’s largest fighting game festivals, has now seen a significant drop in the number of entries.
Looking at the numbers by title, "Street Fighter 6" saw a decrease of approximately 43%, from 4,228 to 2,414.
"Tekken 8" saw a decrease of approximately 46%, from 2,521 to 1,354.
On the other hand, the new title “2XKO” recorded 1,080 entrants.
Incidentally, at “EVO Japan 2026 presented by Levatec,” held in May 2026, “Street Fighter 6” had 7,168 participants (the tournament cap).
"Tekken 8" had 882 participants (according to start.gg), and "2XKO" had 393 (according to start.gg).
While a direct comparison isn’t possible, this clearly demonstrates the overwhelming popularity of "Street Fighter 6" in Japan.
There are various possible reasons for the decline in entries for "Evo 2026,"in addition to soaring travel and accommodation costs and unstable global conditions, the diversification of the Evo series—including “Evo France 2026,” set to debut in October 2026, and “Evo Singapore 2027,” scheduled to debut in January 2027—may also be a factor.
Additionally, some have expressed concerns and dissatisfaction regarding the full acquisition of Evo by RTS—a company under the umbrella of a Saudi Arabian firm— which was officially announced in February 2026.
On the other hand, Evo has specifically named Brazil, Morocco, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and China as new host locations for 2027 and beyond, so the global fighting game scene’s momentum looks set to continue.
