Held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28, 2026 (local time), Evo 2026 arrived amid major changes to the corporate and operational structures surrounding the event in recent years. However, the Japanese esports scene still left a massive mark on the tournament.

While the eight main titles at last year's tournament, Evo 2025, drew a total of 12,263 entries, the 12 main titles at this year's event, Evo 2026, brought in just 8,926. Despite more than 20 years of history as the world's largest fighting game festival, Evo suffered a sharp decline in attendance this year.

Breaking down the numbers by title, Street Fighter 6 player count plummeted from 4,228 to 2,414—a decline of approximately 43%. Tekken 8 saw a similar drop from 2,521 to 1,354, marking a decline of approximately 46%. Meanwhile, the new title 2XKO recorded a solid 1,080 entries.

For comparison, at EVO Japan 2026 presented by Levtech in May 2026, Street Fighter 6 reached its tournament cap with 7,168 entries. Tekken 8 drew 882 entries, and 2XKO brought in 393 entries (both via start.gg). While the two events cannot be compared directly, these numbers highlight the overwhelming popularity of Street Fighter 6 in Japan.

Multiple factors contributed to the drop in entries at Evo 2026, including surging travel and lodging costs, global instability, and the decentralization of the brand with upcoming inaugural events like Evo France 2026 in October 2026 and Evo Singapore 2027 in January 2027. Additionally, the officially announced acquisition of Evo by RTS—a subsidiary of a Saudi Arabian firm—in February 2026 sparked concerns and complaints within the community.

Conversely, Evo has named Brazil, Morocco, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and China as future host countries from 2027 onward, suggesting that the global fighting game scene will continue to thrive.
