Overwatch, developed and operated by Blizzard Entertainment, will launch Season 3, Into the Tiger's Den, on June 16, 2026. With a wealth of incoming content—including the 52nd hero, Shion, a new Tokyo-inspired map called Neon Junction, and an upcoming collaboration with the world-renowned Japanese musical act YOASOBI—there is plenty to look forward to! Ahead of the new season's launch, we sat down with developers Miranda Moyer and Kenny Hudson to learn more.
New Hero Shion Even Throws Bikes
The new hero, Shion, was once imprisoned as a combat training dummy for the Hashimoto Clan. After escaping captivity, she exacted her revenge and now reigns as a high-ranking executive of the Hashimoto Clan.

As an Omnic, her design featuring glowing vocal cords has already generated massive buzz for being exceptionally stylish.

The trailer highlights her relationship with Sojourn, while also showcasing her dealings with Talon as an arms dealer.

The English trailer features Japanese sprinkled throughout, including a moment where she takes advantage of Mauga not understanding the language to call him a musclehead with the line, “Trust me, Noh-kin.”
A Skill Set That Includes Bike Throwing!

Here is a quick breakdown of Shion's skill set. Her primary weapons are dual pistols engraved with the kanji characters for death (死, ‘shi’) and grudge (怨, ‘on’).

Unlike Reaper, who also uses dual weapons, her shots do not have a wide spread, meaning precision will be key. She also possesses a secondary fire that gains power or increases its area of effect when charged, making it excellent for poking enemies or delivering a finishing blow.

Her most iconic ability allows her to ride a motorcycle. She can move at high speeds, clear obstacles, and more.

And just like in the trailer, she can ditch the bike to make it explode.

Her Ultimate ability unleashes a hail of bullets on surrounding enemies. In terms of role, she sits somewhere between a hitscan and a flanker.
We asked developers Miranda Moyer and Kenny Hudson about Shion and the new map.

(The following has been re-translated from Japanese)
— What was the overarching theme behind Shion's creation?
Kenny: Shion is a deeply hard-boiled character, heavily inspired by action movies like John Wick as well as AKIRA. From her appearance to the way she carries herself, we wanted players to feel an aura that screams dangerous to approach.

— We were surprised to see that despite being an Omnic, she has such a stylish, humanoid design.
Miranda: We went through many iterations during development. However, for Shion, the backstory of being imprisoned as a combat training dummy for the Hashimoto Clan was incredibly vital. For a very long time, she had only ever seen the members of the Hashimoto Clan. Once she gained her freedom, she began indulging in the very things those clan executives enjoyed. Most of what she wears and uses, like her clothes and her motorcycle, serves as a means to discover her own identity. I believe that even though she is fully aware she isn't human, she deliberately altered her appearance to look more human.
— What kind of role does she play within the game?
Kenny: While she can deal damage from a distance, she does suffer from damage falloff. Her strengths lie in rapidly closing gaps and flanking behind enemies, so she is designed primarily for close-to-medium-range engagements.
— The new map, Neon Junction, is themed around Tokyo. Could you tell us more about it?
Kenny: It isn't based on one specific real-world location, but rather inspired by a variety of spots. We blended Western perceptions of Japan with how Japanese citizens view their own country, creating a design that feels both fresh and familiar. The train running through the map is one example of that blend.
Saiga NAK— There is an iconic robot standing right in the center of the map. Is that a Gundam-esque nod?
Kenny: Speaking for myself, I am a huge Gundam fan, but I have to state for the record that it's completely unrelated to this map! (Laughs)
