Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Documentary Movie Story
In the 27 years since its release in 1997, FF7 has become a popular series with various related works becoming hits beyond the framework of games and rewriting the common sense of gaming.
The main video, based on the concept of "To Be Reborn," features works starting from the original FF7 and continuing through the series including Before Crisis -FFVII-, FFVII Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus -FFVII-, Crisis Core -FFVII-, and FFVII Remake.
The transition of the world of FF7, which continues to be reborn from dots to polygons and then to 3DCG, is looked back upon together with the memories of Tomoya Nakamura, who encountered the FF series in elementary school and was drawn into its appeal.
While discussing how the FF series and FF7 influenced him and what he looks for in a story as a game lover, Nakamura introduces the points of interest in the latest title in the series, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, from his own unique perspective.

Tomoya Nakamura Long Interview
— About Your Usual Gaming Habits
There are periods when I play every night.
Since I have had quite a bit of time since the start of the year, I feel like I've been playing every night for one reason or another.
The day before the shoot, I finished Crisis Core -FFVII- Reunion.
So right now I am fresh off it, and I feel like I am enveloped in Mako.
— What Was Your First Encounter With the FF Series?
Originally, seeing friends play FF7 and FF8 at their houses when I was in elementary school was my first encounter with FF.
I wanted it for myself too, but I couldn't get them to buy it for me.
The first one I bought for myself with my own allowance was FF9.
Then I remembered and went to a used game shop, bought a slightly discounted copy, and playing that was my encounter with FF7.
— Please Tell Us Your Memories of the Original FF7 and Your Favorite Characters.
Since I was a boy in my student days, I liked characters like Cloud, Sephiroth, and Vincent, who tickled that sense of chuunibyou a bit.
Though right now, I really like Tifa.
Now that I've become an adult, I like looking at factories and such.
Just seeing what you'd call a bit of steampunk, with piping going all over and steam coming out, makes me excited, and I'm sure that interest comes from FF7.
— How Would You Convey the Appeal of FF7 to Someone Who Has Never Played It?
Identity.
Whether it's a movie, a stage play, a drama, or a game, I believe that in the end, stories about searching for one's identity are what generate empathy around the world.
FF7 in particular is a story about confronting your own thoughts and past, thinking about what justice is, and thinking about the future of this planet, isn't it?
I think this way, but is it actually different, do I want to do this—while searching, you establish your identity, make up your mind, and start taking steps forward.
The difference in strength between a step taken without thinking and a step taken after establishing an identity is depicted alongside the characters' growth.
I think the sense of immersion and empathy comes out strongly in FF7, so that's the kind of thing I would like to recommend.
— What Impression Did You Get When You Played FFVII Remake?
Anyway, because everything like the visuals became vivid one by one, there was a part of me simply getting excited because it's a remake of a game I know, and then nuances of emotions that couldn't be fully depicted back then, the atmosphere of the town, and such became things you could feel with your five senses.
There were many things I learned anew and things that surprised me. Rather than just FF7, I really felt like I could feel the city of Midgar.
— Please Tell Us What You Expect From FFVII Rebirth.
There are many things.
I wonder if we will go to Junon, Cosmo Canyon, Costa del Sol, and so on.
Because the visuals have become beautiful, I think the characteristics and atmosphere of each town will come out more.
The story is one thing, but each of those elements is something I'm looking forward to because I'm the type to take a lot of detours.
Also, the date event at the Gold Saucer.
In the original, I used to separate my save data to do each one.
On a large scale, I think everyone is worried about Aerith.
In Remake, guardians of fate called Whisper appeared, and as a fan, I think there would be no point in putting them in unless there is something that changes from there.
If we assume fate is the original FF7, I predict there might be something different, and if we take Lifestream to mean something like revolving around life, the title Rebirth feels significant.
