Nintendo began distributing the Update Data Ver. 1.4.0 for the Nintendo Switch 2 software Mario Kart World beginning Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
The update implements the "Custom Items" feature and partial changes to course layouts.
"Mario Kart World" Adds "Custom Items"!
The Custom Items is a feature that allows you to individually select which items appear during a race.
For example, by setting the items to only Kamek, you can enjoy a different, chaotic race.
By racing alone with the Custom Items set to only Dash Mushroom or Cape Feather, players can also practice course lines and shortcuts more efficiently.
The Custom Items can be selected in VS Race, Battle, and Knockout Tour modes during local or online multiplayer with friends.
Course Layout Partially Changed
Some course layouts have been changed in "Race" mode for VS Race and "Online Play."
In addition to changes to water routes and stage gimmicks, all races leading to Koopa Troopa Beach now require players to complete two laps after arriving there before finishing the race.
The courses with changed layouts are the following:
- Races leading from Koopa Troopa Beach to DK Space Center
- Races leading from Koopa Troopa Beach to Crown City
- Races leading from Koopa Troopa Beach to Peach Stadium
- Races leading from Whistlestop Summit to Koopa Troopa Beach
- Races leading from Desert Hills to Koopa Troopa Beach
- Races leading from DK Space Center to Koopa Troopa Beach
- Races leading from Crown City to Koopa Troopa Beach
- Races leading from Peach Stadium to Koopa Troopa Beach
Room Only and Everyone Selection Added
When playing with friends online, you can now select between Room Only and Everyone modes.
In Room Only, you can play with only your friends using free rules, as before.
In Everyone, you can participate in a rated online match with friends who have gathered in your group.
BGM Song Titles Are Now Displayed
The title of the currently playing song will now be displayed when you open the pause screen during a race or free run.
For music based on past series entries, the original title will also be displayed. Additionally, you can select the BGM volume from Normal and Louder in the settings.
In addition to these features, numerous bug fixes and other changes were made.
