Special Interview (Excerpt)

What are your honest thoughts on your appointment as the official supporter for TGS2026?

Toshiya Miyata: Speaking of TGS, it's an event that gaming fans can't get enough of—where the latest information on new games is constantly being announced, and creators from all over the world gather.
I personally have loved games forever, so it hasn't really sunk in yet that I've been entrusted as the official supporter.
I want to do my absolute best to deliver the charm of TGS to as many people as possible, while also valuing my perspective as a game fan!
It's a special 30th anniversary, and I want to help make TGS2026 the best experience ever with everyone!

PR TIMES
What are your favorite games?

Toshiya Miyata: I've always loved RPGs since I was a child.
I also love raising things, so games like the Pokémon series are my favorites.
Recently, I've really been loving Pokémon UNITE. I've mentioned it in various places, but I'm probably the best in the entertainment industry!
I play it enough that I'm like, "I'm waiting for any challengers from the entertainment industry at any time!"

PR TIMES
How were you first introduced to gaming?

Toshiya Miyata: When I was in the lower grades of elementary school, I had to be hospitalized for a few days. During that time, my grandmother bought me a Game Boy and Mario.
Playing on that grey Game Boy that took four batteries during my free time (in the hospital) was probably my first encounter with gaming.

PR TIMES
Do you have any memories of playing games with your family?

Toshiya Miyata: I used to play Puyo Puyo with my family since I was a child.
Also, my father had a job where he would leave for work before I woke up and would return after I had gone to sleep. But if I set a record in Mario Kart time attack, he would break my record while I was asleep.
There was a period where I would try to beat him during the day, and then he would beat my time after I went to bed at night.
We didn't have much direct conversation, but those are memories of playing with my father through games, and I feel like we built a good relationship even without talking much.
It's such a good story that I'm hoping an indie game developer might make a game out of it (laughs)!

PR TIMES
How do you spend your days off?

Toshiya Miyata: My daily life starts by waking up and playing one round of Pokémon UNITE while still in bed, and then I start drinking coffee.
Also, I went to Akihabara with my bandmate Tamamori to buy a gaming PC. We bought a pretty decent one, so I use it to play games like Genshin Impact. Genshin Impact is really a logic-based game, isn't it?
There's a lot of multiplication and math involved, so I really enjoy the time I spend thinking through those things while playing.

PR TIMES
Do you feel that your circle of friends has expanded through gaming?

Toshiya Miyata: Yes, there are so many people who love games, and lately, there are so many games you can play together online, right?
Including those aspects, I do feel like my circle of friends is expanding.
I often play Monster Hunter with my bandmate Tamamori. I'm actually not very good at FPS games, but when he told me, "Let's play!" I tried playing games like Apex Legends.
I usually get taken out first (laughs), so there are many times where I just watch Tama (Tamamori) play. I feel like a girlfriend sitting next to her boyfriend while he plays games, just watching him.
It's fun even just to watch.

PR TIMES
How do you feel about being appointed as the official supporter in a commemorative year—the 30th anniversary of Tokyo Game Show and the 15th anniversary of Kis-My-Ft2?

Toshiya Miyata: We are only halfway there, but I'm very happy that our anniversaries overlap. More than anything, it is truly amazing that it has continued for 30 years, so I want to say "congratulations" once again.
