Review of the ROG Raikiri, a PC and Xbox compatible controller from ASUS that glows, has rear buttons, and a built-in DAC!

Review

A controller is an essential device for playing home video games. The days when a mouse and keyboard were essential devices for playing games on a PC may be over. In recent years, PCs and PC game platforms have become controller-compatible, and more and more people dare to play PC games with a controller. However, even if you buy a PC, it does not come with a controller, so you need to purchase one separately, but there are so many third-party controllers available that it is difficult to know which one is right for you! For those of you who are not so sure, here is a controller that we recommend you to use. For those people, we would like to introduce " ROG Raikiri ", a controller that we recommend "If you are at all confused, this is the one for you! We borrowed the device from ASUS again. Thank you very much!

ROG Raikiri" review with a cool name anyway!

ROG Raikiri Package List
Saiga NAK

ROG Raikiri is named after the Japanese sword "Raikiri" which is said to have cut even lightning. As it says "DESIGNED FOR Xbox", this product is designed for PC and next generation Xbox.

The back of the package gives an overview of the controller.

  • Intuitive rear buttons
  • Trigger with selectable activation distance
  • Superior sound
  • Advanced customization features

It's kind of a lot of features, but you have to see it to believe it. Let's open the package!

Hello ROG Raikiri
Saiga NAK

The right half is a beautiful skeleton body. Even though it is skeleton, you can't see the base.

And on the left half, there is a large "ROG" text...hmmm?

ROGROGROGROGROGROG...!
Saiga NAK

ROGROGROGROGROGROGROGROGROGROG...?

Forming the large ROG are numerous small ROGs. The use of small symbols in the controller's pattern is a bit deja vu, but the sense of fun is delightful. By the way, the grip is a smooth type that does not feel uneven.

Contents
Saiga NAK

The ROG Raikiri comes with a USB Type-C to Type-A cable, warranty card, and start guide. There are various functions, but the contents are simple since they can be set up with the controller itself and the Armoury Crate software.

The back of the controller
Saiga NAK

On the back of the controller are the rear buttons and a mysterious switch.

The back button is located in the center of the controller, not on the grip, so there is no need to worry about accidentally pressing the wrong button. Even if you don't use the back button, it won't get in the way. Moreover, no matter where you press the button, it will respond with a click.

Back of the main unit
Saiga NAK

The on/off of this switch is related to the working distance of the trigger. In this image, the trigger is set in the deep position, so you can feel the pressure of the trigger . When the switch is set to the outside, it clicks in a shallow position like a bumper.

It glows!
Saiga NAK

I connected it to my PC via USB Type-C and it glowed! The main unit measures 103mm (W) x 64mm (H) x 155mm (D). The design is not much different from recent Xbox controllers. The lighting is not very flashy.

The lighting is not flashy and bright, but the two straight lines along the controller and around the sticks are vivid. Of course, the lighting can be set from the "Armoury Crate".

3.5mm jack and microphone mute button
Saiga NAK

The 3.5mm audio jack is located on the left side of the front of the unit. The ESS DAC is built into this jack!

Connecting a headset
Saiga NAK

DAC stands for Digital to Analog Converter, which means that the sound through this jack sounds beautiful. It is quite good when I actually use it. If you usually use 3.5mm earphones or a headset instead of USB, you should definitely connect them through here.

ROG Raikiri is a bit heavy at about 300g including cable, but that is understandable if it has a built-in DAC.

Saiga NAK

With the ROG STRIX XG16AHPE in white, which was loaned to us at the same time. This mobile display was so comfortable to use that I would like to write a review article on this display alone, but that's a story for another time...

Armoury Crate
Saiga NAK

Let's check out the well-known control software "Armoury Crate". When ROG Raikiri is connected, the effects of triggers, joysticks, and vibrations are displayed in a list.

Armoury Crate
Saiga NAK

The dead zone of the joystick can be set from 0%. You can practice professional precision aim.

Armoury Crate

Assignments for the rear buttons can be found here. If you don't use it, disable it to prevent mis-presses.

Armoury Crate
Saiga NAK

This is the lighting setting you have been waiting for. You can choose from several types, such as constant lighting, slow blinking, etc. My recommendation is "Comet ". You can watch the light flow over the controller all the time. The color of the light can be changed at random!

Highly recommended for PC and Xbox gamers!

Go somewhere with an energy drink!
Saiga NAK

Every single button is perfect, and the sound quality is enhanced with the built-in DAC. It has a button on the back to set the behavior and lighting settings from Armoury Crate. You can purchase such ROG Raikiri from Amazon.co.jp andRakuten Ichiba. At around 14,000 yen (tax included), this quality controller is extremely hot.

I'm sorry, this is just a review," said the author as he picked up the energy drink and disappeared somewhere.
