The Nintendo Switch (development code name: NX) was announced in March 2015 as the successor to the Wii U.
Since its release in 2017, it has been played worldwide alongside numerous masterpiece titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
In the world of gaming consoles, it is common for rumors like "When is the next-generation machine?" or "Will there be a spec-boosted version?" to start appearing once about five years have passed since release, but this announcement officially confirms the existence of a successor.
Since the announcement is stated to be during this fiscal year, it is expected that there will be a further wait until the actual release, but it is better than being toyed with by groundless rumors.
Players are already spreading their own expectations for things like a new Smash Bros. or Splatoon 4, so we will be watching for further news.
Additionally, it was announced that a Nintendo Direct, which will announce the Nintendo Switch title lineup for the latter half of 2024, will be held in June 2024.
It was explicitly stated that the successor will not be covered there, but with the notice for everyone's favorite Nin-Direct, social media is buzzing.

Furthermore, the financial results explanatory material revealed that the Nintendo Museum in Uji City, Kyoto, for which further news had been awaited, is scheduled to open in autumn 2024.
We look forward to its role as a new tourist destination displaying various Nintendo products released to date.
