Nintendo announced that it will hold a collaboration event with the Nintendo Switch game Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the Maximus Cup, an event for the Nintendo Switch Online exclusive software Tetris 99. It will be held from Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 11:00 PM PT until Monday, January 12, 2026, at 10:59 PM PT.
The 51st Maximus Cup "Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update Edition!" Is Being Held!
For the 51st Maximus Cup, a regular event for the Nintendo Switch Online exclusive software Tetris 99, the second collaboration event with Animal Crossing: New Horizons—which is awaiting the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and the Ver. 3.0 update—will be held.

The event period is from Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 11:00 PM PT until Monday, January 12, 2026, at 10:59 PM PT. During this period, you can earn event points based on your ranking in Tetris 99 mode. By earning 100 points in total, you can obtain the special event theme for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The points awarded per rank are as follows:
- 1st: 100 points
- 2nd: 70 points
- 3rd: 50 points
- 4th–10th: 40 points
- 11th–30th: 30 points
- 31st–50th: 20 points
- 51st–90th: 10 points
- 91st–99th: 1 point

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons first collaboration theme can be exchanged for tickets obtained in-game. Tickets can be earned by completing daily missions.
"Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" is a new version that will add new features taking advantage of the Nintendo Switch 2's characteristics, such as mouse operations, game chat, and 4K resolution. A free update (Ver. 3.0), which adds new facilities and more, will also be delivered on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
