Nintendo has released the digital version and upgrade pass for the Nintendo Switch 2 software, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, starting Thursday, July 30, 2026.
The physical package version will be released on Thursday, October 1.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a version optimized for Nintendo Switch 2 based on the Nintendo Switch software, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, featuring newly added elements.
Rex, a young boy living as a Salvager, encounters Pyra, a girl who is a lifeform known as a Blade, in the middle of a certain job.
After Pyra saves his life, Rex decides to share his fate with her, and the two set off on a journey aiming for Elysium, her heartfelt wish.
While this title is the second installment in the Xenoblade Chronicles series, the story is standalone, so players can fully enjoy it even starting from this game.

Improved Resolution and Framerate
The game supports resolutions of 4K in TV mode and 1,080p in handheld mode.
The framerate has improved compared to the Nintendo Switch version, making camera movement smoother and ensuring more comfortable control during battles.
New Blade M.O.M.O. Appears for Situational Adaptation
A new Blade, M.O.M.O., makes an appearance.
Normally, she fights as a recovery-type Light-attribute Blade.
She also has a second form called Imaginary Mode, which transforms her into the Dark attribute when activated.
Players can freely change modes from either the character screen or during combat.
The newly added Blade Quest also depicts a new side of M.O.M.O.
New Mode Merc Assault Added
The developers have added an action battle mode, Merc Assault, where players directly control Blades with buttons.
Clearing stages allows players to obtain various items.
New Styles for Pyra and Mythra Introduced
New styles for Pyra and Mythra have been added.
Players can acquire them as rewards from the new Merc Assault mode or by using Pyra or Mythra amiibo.
Once acquired, players can toggle new styles from the options menu, and they will also apply during cutscenes.

The physical package version of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is scheduled for release on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
If you already own the Nintendo Switch version, you can play by purchasing the upgrade pass for 1,000 JPY (tax included).
Additionally, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition does not include the content of the Nintendo Switch software add-on content, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Expansion Pass, which includes Torna ~ The Golden Country, and requires a separate purchase.
Physical Package Version of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Now Available
The physical package version of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is also now available.
Players can enjoy the new vehicle, Ether Jet, and fully voiced Heart-to-Hearts.
Meanwhile, the upgrade pass, digital version, and physical package version of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition are scheduled for release on Thursday, December 3, 2026.
It will support resolutions and framerates of 4K / 60fps in TV mode and 1,080p / 60fps in handheld mode, with plans to add new modes and characters.
