The Graphics in Movies and Combat Are Too Amazing! I Played
Review

Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG created by the Chinese game studio Game Science.
Based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, this game has you control a "Destined One" who is reminiscent of Sun Wukong and follow the journey west.
It was released on PC and PS5 on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, and was a hot topic even before its release, standing out with its exceptionally beautiful graphics and action.
So, the editorial department actually played Black Myth: Wukong!
This is a must-see for anyone concerned about the difficulty or gameplay! To put it simply, this game is seriously fun!
As someone who loves action games, I'm going to review my impressions of actually playing Black Myth: Wukong.

Simple Yet Exhilarating Action

The first thing I noticed when I played was how fast the dodge response was.
With action games in general, I think there are many costs to attacking, such as getting hit during a motion's opening or not being able to dodge at the right time.
However, in this game, while a single regular attack is weak, you can add a delay to your attacks to gauge the enemy's moves, and the invincibility frames for dodging are long, allowing you to fully enjoy the action!

Personally, I prefer tense combat where you take down the opponent by deflecting a lot of their attacks over unilaterally defeating the opponent with a powerful move, so I thought having a lot of simple attacks was good because it allowed me to concentrate on dodging!
You can also increasingly perform powerful special moves that stagger opponents by acquiring skill moves.
I think it's closer to a ”kind” die-and-retry game rather than a musou game.

A Style That's Kind to the Player!

Next, about the systems.
In this game, you don't lose points or scores when you die!
So, if there's a boss you just can't beat, you can defeat smaller enemies to level up before challenging the boss again!
Also, since there's no concept of fall damage, you can explore to your heart's content.
However, the exploration is limited to branching paths, so you can't explore in-depth.

Still, I Want You to See These Overwhelming Graphics

I'll say it again. The graphics are truly amazing.
The unique atmosphere and equipment of Journey to the West, the sunlight—no matter how closely you look, you'll be nothing but impressed.
Of course, Ruyi Jingu Bang and Somersault Cloud, familiar weapons of Sun Wukong, also appear!
In addition, the movies and combat have so many captivating moments that you're sure to get completely absorbed!

A Few Things to Consider

You've been praising this game so much, so there must have been some downsides! For you, of course there were!
The first is that the protagonist is quite tough and doesn't flinch much from the opponent's attacks, so you often find yourself worn down and dead without even realizing it.
The protagonist doesn't flinch much from light enemy attacks. This is a good thing, but it also means you take some damage in exchange for landing your attacks. (The protagonist does flinch properly from big moves and heavy weapon attacks.)
However, this is something you'll get used to.

The second is the story, which assumes you know Journey to the West.
Many of the movies feature famous phrases from Journey to the West.
I regret not having studied it, because I feel I would have enjoyed the game even more with knowledge of Journey to the West.
However, it's still a game that you can fully enjoy even if you don't know Journey to the West.

Recommended for Action Game Beginners!

Action games have a reputation for having a large death penalty and a big sense of loss, making them difficult to get into, but Black Myth: Wukong isn't like that. There is always a save point before a boss, and no fall damage, so it's stress-free!
The smaller enemies between bosses aren't unreasonable either, so I definitely recommend this to action game beginners.
Of course, action game veterans and fans of Journey to the West will also be able to fully enjoy this game, as they'll appreciate the special move effects and the tension of the combat!
Black Myth: Wukong is now available for purchase on the PlayStation Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store, so if you're interested, buy it now!
