Tokyo Game Show 2023 (TGS2023), one of Japan's largest game festivals, is being held from September 21, 2023 (Thursday). The game will be released on September 28, 2023 (Thursday), and we had a chance to try it out before its release!

Fate/Samurai Remnant" is a derivative work of the popular Fate series created by TYPE-MOON, which includes many mega-hit titles such as FGO. The setting is Japan in the Edo period. The action RPG depicts the Japanese Holy Grail War, "Yeongetsu no Rite," which takes place in this time and place.

At the entrance of the booth, a large screen showed the characters appearing in the game. The images of "Iori Miyamoto" from the Saber camp and "Saber" from the Servant camp were shown in different forms, so you couldn't stop clicking your shutter!

In the center is a life-size figure of "Musashi Miyamoto," a Servant of the Berserker camp in this work, with a full moon in the background! The figure has been reproduced in great detail and is very powerful! In FGO, Musashi appeared in the Saber class, but in this work, he appears in the Berserker class!

As you proceed through the booth, you will find a photo spot with life-size panels of the characters! The panels include Servants who are new to this title as well as Servants who have appeared in previous titles.

Test playing "Fate/Samurai Remnant"!

Let's try out "Fate/Samurai Remnant" right away! Fate/Samurai Remnant" will be released on PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam! The game features familiar and popular characters such as "Musashi Miyamoto," "Jeanne Alter," and "Koo Hulin," making it feel like a new chapter in the Fate world. The part of the game where you can walk around the city is also a joy just by walking around, as the shaders are well matched to the characters. The buildings in the city also have a realistic feel, making you feel like you are strolling through the streets of Edo (present-day Tokyo).

The battles, on the other hand, are the musou action type familiar to Koei Tecmo. In Fate, masters often provide rear support, but in this title, both masters and servants go to the front lines to fight. Controls are performed by combining □ and △ to derive combos, and one-button intersperses special moves with recharges.

Controlling Servants

There is also a temporary switch of control character with a Servant with high combat power, and a balance to go on the offensive with a time limit to repaint the battlefield. However, this is where the game gets serious. If you fail to go on the offensive, you may be revived by the enemy, or you may not be able to attack properly due to super armor, so the key is the timing of the switch. The game does not feel heavy and is light rather than speedy, so I was able to enjoy the battle without stress.

Activating Treasure

Of course, there is the familiar Fate treasure activation. Fulfill the conditions and activate the treasure tool for a one-shot reversal!

This is my report on "Fate/Samurai Remnant"! The event was not only for Fate fans, but also for those who enjoy Japanese taste, as it was set in the Edo period (1603-1868). Fate/Samurai Remnant" will be released on PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam on September 28, 2023! For more information about the product, please visit the official website.
