Taipei Game Show 2024 was held in Taiwan from Thursday, January 25 to Sunday, January 28, 2024.
It was a festival full of buzz, with new titles being released and new information being announced even during the event period, but that high-profile title is also about to be released soon!
This time, we bring you an interview with Producer Misaki Kai of the latest title "Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash," scheduled for release by Bandai Namco Entertainment on Thursday, February 1, 2024!
We asked her all about her impressions of Taipei Game Show and the charm of the game.
In this article, we deliver the interview conducted in Japanese, translated into English.
Interview with Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash Producer Kai!

Note: Since this is a joint media interview, it includes questions from outlets other than the Saiga NAK editorial department.
Q. Please tell us your impressions of Taipei Game Show.
Producer Kai: I knew of its existence, but it was my first time actually visiting the venue.
My first impression was that the venue is quite dense and the excitement feels intense.
Large stages were set up at each booth, and seeing people gather there made me feel the excitement.

Q. Please tell us the reason for adopting a 2v2 system instead of single battles in this game.
Producer Kai: Of course, Jujutsu Kaisen has 1v1 battles too, but it is a work with many scenes where two people cooperate in major battles and during the process of character growth.
We adopted a 2v2 battle system so that players can feel such passionate battles and cooperative fighting.
Q. Are there battle methods other than 2v2?
Producer Kai: 2v2 is the base in this game, but it is also possible to play 2v1 in room matches and the like.
Also, there are occasionally scenes where two Jujutsu Sorcerers fight against about four Cursed Spirits.

Q. Is there a system like a combination technique that can be performed by specific combinations of characters?
Producer Kai: In terms of unleashing techniques with two people, I think the Joint Attack system is close.
This is triggered when one ally performs a follow-up attack on an opponent hit by the other's opening move, and the presentation of that may change with specific combinations.
Q. Are there any recommended combinations for beginners?
Producer Kai: I think the protagonist, Yuji Itadori, is simple and easy to use.
And since Yuji Itadori goes well with long-range characters, Nobara Kugisaki and Jogo are recommended.

Q. Based on what criteria did you select the 16 playable characters?
Producer Kai: We selected characters who play an active role in the main story and characters who are popular.
Q. Can all playable characters be used right from the start?
Producer Kai: Regarding the 16 characters that have been revealed, they can be used immediately for things like online battles.
However, in Story Mode, progress follows the flow of the narrative, so there are restrictions.
Q. Up to which episodes of the manga or anime is the in-game story included? Also, are there newly written stories or characters prepared?
Producer Kai: What is included this time is mainly the first season of the anime and Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie.
In addition, it includes a newly written story that depicts parts corresponding to the intermissions of the original story.
Q.
Are the in-game techniques adopted from those depicted in the anime? Are there techniques unique to the game?
Producer Kai: Since the anime is probably the most familiar to everyone, we basically translate the passionate presentations of the anime into the game.
However, regarding Joint Attacks, Awakening Moves, and the like, game-unique techniques may be included at times.
Q. Please tell us about the balancing of characters with extraordinary strength, such as Satoru Gojo and Ryomen Sukuna.
Producer Kai: Satoru Gojo and Ryomen Sukuna boast top-level strength even within the work of Jujutsu Kaisen.
For such characters, we have set it so that the way their Cursed Energy level rises is slow (difficult).
I think players will be able to enjoy them by making them late-bloomer types who become the strongest once their Cursed Energy level is fully raised.

Q. Your company works on turning various manga and anime into games, but what is different from other games when creating Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash?
Producer Kai: Unlike typical battle games, there are two types of attacks: attacks that reduce the opponent's health when they hit, and attacks that do not, and I think the point that you need to use those techniques properly is major.
Also, in the work Jujutsu Kaisen, the individuality of each character is set in detail.
Since we have incorporated the settings of each character into the game, I think players will be able to feel the difference in the gameplay feel for each character despite it being the same game.
Q. What was difficult when turning Jujutsu Kaisen into a home console game?
Producer Kai: We struggled to incorporate the Cursed Techniques and settings of each character.
For example, Satoru Gojo cannot take damage unless something extraordinary happens, and you will die if you are touched by Mahito.
If we implement those parts into the game exactly as they are, the balance will be disrupted, but they are also their identities.
We implemented them while considering character individuality and game balance.

Q. This game does not support cross-platform play or local communication, but will this be considered in the future?
Producer Kai: There are no plans for cross-platform support, including in the future.
When playing with friends, we hope you will play using online communication.
Q. Will there be DLC distribution? Are playable characters included in it?
Producer Kai: We have already released only the information about the DLC "Hidden Inventory / Premature Death" as a bonus for the limited edition.
Please wait for further updates regarding the addition of playable characters!
Q. How do you feel about the popularity and response to Jujutsu Kaisen in the Asian region, including Taiwan?
Producer Kai: The work Jujutsu Kaisen has gained worldwide popularity.
Of course, Asia including Taiwan is no exception, and we can feel the popularity from the data as well.

Q. Please give a message to all the players.
Producer Kai: One of the characteristics of Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash is that the gameplay feel of each individual character is different.
You can play each character in turn, or you can master your favorite character.
We hope you will enjoy the battle action that is true to that character.
