Gecipe Inc. (hereinafter, Gecipe), a metaverse education startup utilizing eSports, started a pilot program for "eSports English" in collaboration with Kuki City, Saitama Prefecture, as part of a community club initiative.
This initiative aims to provide more learning opportunities for students in the region.
"eSports x English Conversation": New Learning Pilot Program Begins in Kuki City
PR TIMESCurrently, based on national policies from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Japan Sports Agency, and the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Japan is promoting the "Transition of School Club Activities to Community Collaboration and Community Club Activities (Community Transition)".
Kuki City, Saitama Prefecture, is also actively working on sustainable school club reform in the region and promoting the development of environments for sports and cultural arts activities.
Against this backdrop, Gecipe collaborated with Kuki City to start a pilot program for "eSports English," a new place for learning in the community that combines eSports and English conversation.
In this pilot program, by combining Chromebooks introduced in public junior high schools in Kuki City with online games, they created an environment where anyone attending a public junior high school in the city can participate.
The goal is to provide more learning opportunities for local students, allowing them to naturally learn English while playing games.
Participants Wanted for eSports English!
"eSports English" is conducted in classes once a week for 60 minutes, with approximately 20 participants per class.
By bringing together students who share a common interest in eSports, resistance to speaking English is reduced, and learning progresses in a relaxed atmosphere.
Since it is conducted online, it not only eliminates the hassle of transportation but also offers the significant benefit of allowing students from the region who normally wouldn't interact to deepen their communication through games.
In the first session, it was reported that students quickly warmed up to each other and communicated in English while cooperating in-game.
Those who wish to participate should apply via the "eSports English" Application Form.
Details can be found in the Kuki City Community Club Recruitment Flyer (PDF File).
