Santa Monica Studio has announced that a remake of the God of War Greek Trilogy is in development.
Additionally, God of War: Sons of Sparta, which depicts a young Kratos, was released at the same time as the announcement.
Development of God of War Greek Trilogy Remake Announced! A 20th Anniversary Surprise for the Series
During the State of Play broadcast on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Sony Interactive Entertainment's Santa Monica Studio announced that a remake of the God of War Greek mythology trilogy is currently in development.
The original God of War was released 20 years ago in March 2005, and Kratos's adventures through ancient Greece began on the PlayStation 2.
This announcement took place just before March 2026, which marks the end of the 20th anniversary year for the God of War series.
While the title is in the early stages of development and further news will take some time, the production team clearly wanted to share the news with fans before the end of this fiscal year.

God of War: Sons of Sparta Released Alongside Announcement!
Furthermore, God of War: Sons of Sparta was also announced during the broadcast.
This title is a 2D action platformer following a young Kratos as he undergoes the grueling Agoge military training system alongside his brother, Deimos.
The scenario was handled by the Santa Monica Studio writing team, who worked on God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök.
Additionally, TC Carson has returned to the series for the first time in over 10 years as the voice of the adult Kratos, serving as the story's narrator, which will undoubtedly provide a nostalgic experience for fans.
In this game, Kratos faces powerful enemies using formidable skills with a spear and shield, as well as relics of the gods called Gifts of Olympus.
Familiar characters and new creatures also appear, allowing players to enjoy the intense combat of the traditional God of War series in a new genre.
Surprisingly, God of War: Sons of Sparta was released for the PlayStation 5 on Friday, February 13, 2026.
As it is already available to play, those who are interested should check the PlayStation Store immediately.
