Nintendo to Acquire Shiver
Nintendo announced on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, that it has entered into a share transfer agreement with Embracer Group AB to make Shiver a subsidiary.
Shiver is a software developer for gaming platforms headquartered in Florida, USA. Since its establishment in 2012, Shiver has been commissioned by game publishers and developers to develop large-scale projects, most recently porting and developing "Hogwarts Legacy" and "Mortal Kombat 1". In particular, "Hogwarts Legacy" is an open-world game that makes full use of the latest technology and expression, and the high specifications required for its porting and optimization to the Nintendo Switch, a portable device that can be carried around, have received a certain amount of praise.
Nintendo's Comment
We have decided to acquire all shares of Shiver and make it our subsidiary in order to bring Shiver's development staff, who have a wealth of game development experience, into our group and secure highly technical porting and development resources. After becoming a member of our group, Shiver will continue to port and develop games for multiple game platforms, including Nintendo Switch, under contract from game publishers other than our company.
In relation to the Switch's successor models, the following is related to the Switch
Nintendo has announced that it plans to announce the successor to Nintendo Switch by March 2025, and some believe that this acquisition of a subsidiary is not unrelated in terms of securing resources. The video game industry has been undergoing a period of restructuring in recent years, with a series of major acquisitions and cutbacks in personnel. As the market continues to expand, competition is likely to intensify.
Nintendo has stated that the acquisition will have only a negligible impact on the company's business performance for the current fiscal year.
