"x8studio" is an application for iPhone/iPad that allows users to create and play small retro games.
It is packaged with "x8", an imaginary machine designed to be small and functional, and its game development environment, so that anyone can enjoy game development and programming in a casual manner.
To enable stress-free operation even on smartphones with small screens, buttons are arranged in order from the bottom to avoid covering the hand that touches them, and touch cursors are used to enable fine pointing.
It is also possible to write programs using the Code editor. The application's own on-screen keyboard or external keyboard input can be used for programming, and simple code completion is supported.
The Lua language used for programming is a simple and easy-to-learn language specification that supports various programming paradigms and is a fast scripting language.

With a subscription, you can use the Gfx editor, the Map editor, and the Sfx editor.
You can create so-called sprites, maps, and even retro chiptune-like sound effects with the Sfx editor. Waveform, pitch, volume, etc. can be intuitively manipulated by touch, so there is no need for any advanced technical knowledge.
The Debug mode supports log output for development, checking program errors, and jumping to error locations. The finished game can be played in Run mode, which simulates an imaginary machine.
Included as samples are a simple shooting game that can be played immediately, an action puzzle game, and a tutorial project.
