A new year has dawned, and 2026 has begun.
The author performed a deep cleaning to welcome the new year with a fresh mindset, but this year, I am aiming to keep up with frequent daily cleaning to the point where a massive year-end project won't even be necessary.
However, a common struggle for people today is not being able to find enough time for daily chores. For those of you with that problem, a robot vacuum cleaner is an excellent option!
This time, we are reviewing Dreame's robot vacuum cleaner, the L40s Pro Ultra.
Unboxing the Dreame L40s Pro Ultra!

Speaking of Dreame, since its establishment in 2017, it has become a global company operating in over 120 countries and regions worldwide, centered in China as well as the United States, Europe, and Asia.
In June 2023, it finally landed in Japan, and it is displayed in large sections not only on e-commerce sites such as Amazon.co.jp and Rakuten Ichiba but also at Bic Camera stores throughout Japan.

Let's unbox it right away!

The outer box is so tight I can't get it out...

So, I cut all the way around the bottom of the packaging...

Here it comes...

...finally!
Saiga NAK
The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra is a popular model in Dreame's robot vacuum cleaner lineup, which features many characteristics such as the following:
- 19,000Pa suction power
- Supports climbing over 4cm obstacles
- Mop cleaning and automatic attachment/detachment via dual rotating mops
- Mop cleaning with hot water and automatic detergent replenishment
- Cleans room edges and corners by extending the mop and side brush outwards
- Removes 100% of hair tangles with the HyperStream Tangling-Free Duo Brush
- Detects over 180 objects using an LED light, dual laser 3D structured light, and an AI camera

And inside that was even more Dreame.
The Matryoshka-like structure makes the anticipation build...!

The back of the Dreame cardboard was a Quick Start Guide.
Let's proceed according to these steps after unboxing.

Finally, the main unit makes its appearance!

This round unit is the Dreame L40s Pro Ultra.
From now on, this guy will take over all the room cleaning!

And here is the base station.
By the way, the robot vacuum unit itself is 4.23kg, and the base station is 9kg.

These are the contents.
From here, we will install the items that aren't already attached and carry out the initial setup!

First, connect the base station to the outlet!

It's all set if the base station light turns on!

Next, attach the base station ramp.
This ramp is essential because the robot vacuum cannot return to the base station without it!

The robot vacuum unit has protective materials attached, so pull them off slowly.

There is also a sticker on the camera lens, so be sure to remove it.
Furthermore, from a privacy protection perspective, video data is processed locally and is not uploaded to the cloud.

Attach the mops to the underside of the robot vacuum.
Mopping with these mops is what makes the flooring sparkle.
Power On!

Now, let's turn it on!
Press and hold the power button (center) of the robot vacuum for 3 seconds to turn it on.

To perform the initial setup, first set it manually in the base station to charge it.

To make the most of the Dreame robot vacuum, setup with the proprietary Dreamehome app (App Store/Google Play) is required.
After launching the app, agreeing to the terms, and granting permissions, you will move on to pairing your smartphone with the robot vacuum unit.

Pressing the spot cleaning button (left) and the base station button (right) of the robot vacuum simultaneously for 3 seconds will switch it to network connection mode.
Once the connection with the app and Wi-Fi is complete, the preparations for cleaning are finished for now!

However, I would like to proceed with just a bit more of the initial setup.
Remove the base station cover and...

Pull out the black detergent tank.
Dreame Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner Review! (?)

One of the attractions of the Dreame L40s Pro Ultra is the thorough floor cleaning using detergent.
In other words, detergent is energy for a robot vacuum... an energy drink!?
So, here is the review for the Dreame Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner!

- Water
- Alcohols (C12-14, ethoxylated)
- Polyether modified polydimethylsiloxane
- Coconut diethanolamide
- Isotridecyl alcohol ethoxylate
- 1,2-benzisothiazol-3-one
The main ingredients are as shown above.
It is optimal for cleaning hard surfaces such as marble, tile, and flooring.
The content is 200ml and the expiration date is 3 years!

When you open the cap and sniff it, it has a very detergent-like floral scent.
Since this Dreame L40s Pro Ultra is a model that automatically mixes clean water and detergent at the base station, it's fine to just pour the whole thing into the detergent tank. Bottoms up!

Once you've put the floor cleaner in the detergent tank, just put it back and replace the cover!
Note that the Dreame Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner can be purchased from the Dreame Japan Official Online Shop.

Removing the cover at the top of the base station reveals the clean water tank and the dirty water tank.

Put water into the clean water tank.

Make sure to attach the included deodorizing module to the dirty water tank.

This concludes all the setup!

When checking the app, an initial fast mapping of the room is recommended.
I pressed it as instructed.

This Dreame L40s Pro Ultra moves a lot and talks a lot.
The robot vacuum unit itself doesn't have an interface to show status, so it's helpful that it tells you the status via voice.

This time, I deliberately placed several obstacles in an environment where the floor was mostly clear, and you can see that it's detecting and mapping them properly.
It seems it cleaned very thoroughly the first time, and you can check its path from the app.
It feels somewhat endearing. Robot vacuum cleaners give you that kind of feeling.

Finally, I checked the performance of the AI camera, which had a sticker on it when unboxed.

The field of view is very wide, and it is equipped with a high-performance camera that allows you to clearly see text both near and far.
This camera detects whether the mess is solid or liquid and selects the optimal cleaning method for the dirt.
During cleaning, if the mop's dirtiness exceeds a certain threshold, it will return to the base station to re-wash the mop and then go back to the previous area for a second wipe.
It is smart despite its small size.
Also, while it doesn't seem like a feature used very frequently, you can manually operate the robot vacuum from the app, take screenshots or videos, and communicate via the microphone.
The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra can even be used somewhat like a pet camera.
