Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. has released a beta system software update for PlayStation 5 (PS5) for select users on Monday, July 31, 2023! The official version is scheduled to be available by the end of 2023 and will include new accessibility features and support for high-capacity M.2 SSDs.
New Features! Accessibility features added
PS5 Home screen controls now include the ability to enable haptic feedback and the ability to assign a second controller as an " assist controller " for a single account. This allows for a new type of gaming experience, such as playing a game cooperatively with someone else or helping a friend or child with a difficult part of the game!
Added support for Dolby Atmos compatible devices
Tempest 3D audio can now be enjoyed on Dolby Atmos-enabled HDMI devices (soundbars, TVs, home theater systems, etc.). The sound produced by Tempest 3D Audio is output to Dolby Atmos-enabled HDMI devices, which can also support ceiling speakers, allowing PS5 games to be played with a more immersive experience.
Improved social functions
Friends can now be automatically added to groups and temporarily invited to private parties without having to create a new group. You will also be able to send invitations to open and private parties to groups, saving you time.
A preview image of the share screen will be displayed when a player in a share screen is in a party that you can join. You can now see the preview even if you are not in the party.
In the Game Hub, the number of times you have participated in a tournament for that game, your highest rank, and the start time of the next tournament will be displayed. You can also view a list of all tournaments by selecting a tournament title.
You can now add reactions to messages with pictograms to communicate with your friends more quickly and easily.
Improved Convenience
You can now search for games in the game library.
In addition to the "In Progress" activities that were previously displayed, you can now also view "Available," "Previously Available," "Scheduled," and "Completed" activities. The content of the selected item is now displayed on the right side of the card, making it easier to access the activity's goals and help.
A new "Tips and Tricks" section has been added to the Settings to help you get the most out of your PS5 and access information about new features.
In addition, the maximum capacity of M.2 SSDs that can be used to expand PS5 storage will be increased from 4TB to 8TB. Since the capacity of recent games is increasing rapidly, consider purchasing an M.2 SSD while the market is still calm.
