Review

This time, LAN Cable Man purchased " Google Pixel3a ", a low-priced version of Google Pixel 3/3XL at Google Store, and I'd like to show you how it compares with Google Pixel 3XL and other smartphones. I would like to compare it with Google Pixel 3XL and other smartphones.

Let's open the box!

On the front of the box, there is a picture of the device, the Google logo, and the words "Pixel 3a.

The color name is Just Black and the model number is G020H. It is designed by Google and manufactured in China.
The U.S. and China are going through a lot of difficulties in their trade relations right now.
By the way, Pixel 3a was shipped from Singapore and arrived via Hong Kong.
It seems that there is a reason why Pixel 3a is manufactured in China and shipped to Singapore, a free trade country.

On the bottom of the box, there is a hashtag #teampixel and some catchy pictures are printed. The quality of the print is a bit cheap, which suggests that this is a low-priced version of the product and that they are trying to cut costs.

I thought the bundle was simple.

The bundled items are the main unit, Type-C↔Type-C cable, AC adapter, Type-C male/Type-A female conversion adapter, and instruction manual.
It is rare to find a Type-C conversion adapter included in the package, and it is also rare to find a Type-C male/Type-A female adapter included in the package.

A Google sticker was also included in the package. There is also a #teampixel sticker, so I'd like to put it on my MacBook Pro and go to Starbucks and say, "This is a Chromebook.

Review and Comparison

Google Pixel3aSaiga NAK

The body of the Chromebook is quite simple. It has no notch, just like the Google Pixel 3.

Google Pixel3aSaiga NAK

The back of the device is also simple, with the Google "G" logo discreetly displayed. The matte and glare textures are well balanced.

Google Pixel3aSaiga NAK

Compared with Google Pixel 3XL. It is one size smaller.

Google Pixel3aSaiga NAK

The back side is almost the same. At a glance, it's hard to tell which is 3a or 3.

Google Pixel3aSaiga NAK

Yes, it is. Here is the usual series of side-by-side comparison. Black is really cool compared to white...!

Google Pixel3aSaiga NAK

Thickness is almost the same. It's starting to look rather like a mistake.

Google Pixel3aSaiga NAK

One of the differences from Pixel 3/3XL is the location of the SIM slot; Pixel 3a is on the side.

Google Pixel3aSaiga NAK

The Pixel 3/3XL has it on the bottom, to the left of the Type-C port, while the Pixel 3a has it on the side.

Google Pixel3aSaiga NAK

The main difference from Pixel 3/3XL is the earphone jack.
Recently, we have been forced to face the inconvenience of smartphones that do not have an earphone jack, but I think it is a bit unfair that the lower-priced version has an earphone jack.
Type-C earphones are increasing in the market, but I still want to use good earphones to listen to rich and good sound, so I am glad that there is an earphone jack. It would have been better if it had a balanced connection, but it is a low-priced version, so it can't be helped.

Comparison with BlackBerrys

Google Pixel3aSaiga NAK

Now that we have compared Pixel with Pixel, let's compare Pixel with BlackBerry, the device you are most interested in.
This time, I compared with "BlackBerry KEYone", "BlackBerry KEY2", and "BlackBerry Priv". As you can see, the size is almost the same.
However, Pixel 3a has a larger screen and larger display area because it does not have a physical keyboard, which is the biggest disadvantage of Pixel 3a.

Google Pixel3aSaiga NAK

Let's look at it from an angle. It's still a cool BlackBerry.
Pixel 3a is also a cool and attractive smartphone, but if you put it side by side with BlackBerry, its appeal will be reduced by half, so those who purchase Pixel 3a should be careful not to put it side by side with BlackBerry.

Now it's time to start up & initial setup

Google Pixel3aSaiga NAK

Now let's boot up the device. The customary Google G logo.

Various shapes are interspersed with Google colors.

After the startup animation is over, it's time to set the language. Don't worry, French is also supported. "Bonjour!"

Impressions after trying it for a while

I'm using UQmobile = au SIM this time, and since it's a SIM-free version and supports au bands, I was able to use it without any problems.
Incidentally, LAN Cable Man originally used au, but since he switched to UQmobile, his monthly fee has been reduced to about 2,000 JPY.

The lack of buttons on the bottom makes the screen a bit difficult to use vertically, just like the Pixel 3/3XL, and I realize the greatness of the BlackBerry.
However, in terms of size, it feels just right, not too big or too small, with no inconvenience to put in and out of pockets.

Above all, I am happy that there are no pre-installed applications from carriers.
On top of that, it is Felica compatible and can use major e-money such as Edy, Suica, Waon, and nanaco, so there is no need to bother to start an app and bring up the QR code screen, so Sony's Felica is great. PayPay!
One thing to keep in mind is that it does not support SD cards. Many smartphones these days don't support it, but it's a little unsatisfactory that an Android device doesn't support SD card.
But we'll see if the internal storage is sufficient or not when I start using it more heavily.

The camera quality is perfect, although I only take pictures of ramen noodles.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I think this is a good buy, and iPhone users can consider buying it as a sub machine.

Buy it now at the official Google Pixel 3a website and make the transition!
