Chinese smartphone manufacturer OPPO held a new product launch on Thursday, February 20, 2025 local time and announced the world's thinnest foldable smartphone, the OPPO Find N5. The device will be sold globally, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore, but is not yet available in Japan at the time of this writing. At the time of writing, there is no word yet on a Japanese release.

The main specifications of the OPPO Find N5 (global model) include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, 16GB of memory, and 512GB of storage. When closed, the outer screen is 6.62" with a resolution of 2,616 x 1,140 pixels, a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a maximum brightness of 2,450 nits. The camera, developed in cooperation with Hasselblad, a long-established camera manufacturer, has three cameras: a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x magnification.
And the biggest feature, the body size, is 160.87 x 74.42 x 8.93 mm when closed. The "OPPO Find N5" is so thin that you may want to display it to two decimal places. It weighs 229g, which is also light for a foldable smartphone. It is lighter than some of the common smartphones with large displays of less than 7 inches.
This thin body is equipped with a large 5,600mAh battery. Recently, smartphones from Chinese manufacturers have been using new silicon carbon-based materials for their batteries, a trend that has increased capacity while maintaining the same size as conventional batteries.
The OPPO Find N5 supports OPPO's VOOC fast charging method, which allows for 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. A slide switch can be seen on the side of the device, which is the same alert slider used on the higher-end models of its sister brand OnePlus, and can switch between three different silent modes.
The price is S$2,499. It is quite expensive at about 280,000 yen. The OPPO Pen stylus (sold separately) allows for handwriting input, and Google's "Kakotte Search" is also supported, so you can instantly search for anything you are interested in by holding the pen.
When opened, it measures 160.87 x 146.58 x 4.21 mm. Mobile products in the 4 mm range are found in some of the same foldable smartphones, but this is the thinnest compared to them. There are also several tablets on the market that claim to be thin, but none are under 5 mm.
Foldable smartphones not only offer a large display when opened, but also allow users to run two apps simultaneously in split-screen mode, such as playing a game while viewing a social networking site. The ColorOS 15 (modified by OPPO based on Android 15) used by the OPPO Find N5 can easily switch between multiple screens, and up to three screens can be rotated and used interchangeably.
Furthermore, by folding the main unit into an L-shape and activating the camera, it is possible to take pictures without the need for a tripod. This style of video streaming is also possible.

MacOS can now mirror an iPhone screen to a PC. The OPPO Find N5 can mirror the Find N5's screen to a Mac desktop using the O+ Connect app. Files can also be copied by drag-and-drop. In addition, with the Remote Desktop feature, Find N5 can also be used as a "mini MacBook!
The device has high performance, a good camera, and a large 8-inch screen that is the size of a smartphone, but can be used as needed.
