While e-sports and competitions are flourishing around the world, fighting games are a genre in which the Japanese excel. The knowledge, experience, and skills that have been cultivated since the days of video game arcades are well established, and in the world of e-sports, players who are called "veterans" are also active in the front lines of the fighting game genre. EVO Japan, the Japanese version of EVO, a fighting game festival, has made a major announcement. EVO Japan 2024 presented by ROHTO (EVO Japan 2024), which will be held from April 27 (Saturday) to 29 (Monday), 2024, will charge a fee for both participation and admission!
EVO Japan 2024" will charge a fee to keep the tournament running.

EVO Japan 2024" was scheduled to be held from April 27 (Saturday) to 29 (Monday), 2024 as of August 2023, but it was announced on December 1 (Friday), 2023 that there will be a fee for both participation and admission. Unlike the "EVO" held in Las M. Bisons, U.S.A., "EVO Japan" has been free for both participation and admission (spectator events are charged). While this had the advantage of allowing casual participation, there were also concerns about the lack of manpower for the management staff. The official website of EVO Japan also announced comments from the executive committee.
EVO Japan has been free admission and free entry with the exception of the final day, but starting from the 2024 event, there will be a fee for entry. We have decided that this is necessary in order to continue running the largest tournament in Japan and to provide more attractive content and higher quality tournaments.
The main tournament will feature 7 titles including "Sto 6" and "Tekken 8".
