Square Enix Co., Ltd. announced that "Final Fantasy Tactics - Ivalice Chronicles" will be released on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
"Final Fantasy Tactics" Reborn! The Legendary Tactical RPG Returns
"Final Fantasy Tactics," released in 1997, is a monumental tactical RPG that remains a classic today.
Reborn as "Final Fantasy Tactics - Ivalice Chronicles," this title is set to be released on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
This title includes two versions: "Classic," which focuses on reproducing the original, and "Enhanced," a modern rebuild.
This design, allowing both new and returning players to enjoy the game, is likely due to the involvement of much of the original development team, including Director Kazutoyo Maehiro.
Additionally, this title will be available on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Steam, making it accessible to a wider range of fans.
Pre-orders have begun for some platforms; check it out if you're interested.
The product lineup is as follows:
- Deluxe Edition (Physical/Digital): 6,800 yen (tax included)
- Standard Edition (Digital): 5,800 yen (tax included)
- Special Collector's Box: 22,000 yen (tax included)
More detailed information about the game and the product lineup can be found on the Square Enix official blog “FINAL FANTASY TACTICS - The Ivalice Chronicles coming September 30th, 2025.”.
Comment from Director Kazutoyo Maehiro
Hello, everyone!
I am excited to finally share with you all FINAL FANTASY TACTICS - The Ivalice Chronicles! This is a project that began with our long-held desire to revive the beloved FINAL FANTASY TACTICS on modern-day platforms and bring the game to a new generation of players.
We have included two different versions of the game with The Ivalice Chronicles.
The first is the enhanced version.
This version includes updates to the script, which is accompanied by fully voiced dialogue in English and Japanese. It also features numerous new elements, such as additional event scenes, a completely revamped UI, and much more. This is the perfect version for both those who played the original version of FINAL FANTASY TACTICS, as well as those playing for the first time.
Next, we have the classic version.
This version recreates the original game experience in almost perfect fidelity, while also adding some quality-of-life features such as auto-save. The classic version lets you play with the exact same feel from back when the original game was released, offering a reassuringly familiar experience for fans of the original.
I believe these two versions will allow everyone to enjoy the world of Ivalice to the fullest, so I invite both FINAL FANTASY TACTICS veterans and newcomers alike to try out The Ivalice Chronicles!
I was actually a member of the original game’s development team when I was just starting my career. Almost 30 years have passed since then, and I now find myself working on FINAL FANTASY TACTICS once again as the director. Several other members of the original team have also returned, including game designer Mr. Yasumi Matsuno—who penned the script—and art director Mr. Hiroshi Minagawa. I feel that what we have created together is worthy of being called the quintessential version of FINAL FANTASY TACTICS!
I hope everyone is looking forward to the release on September 30th!
Comments from Art Director Hiroshi Minagawa and Yasumi Matsuno, who were involved in the script, revisions, and supervision, among others, are also available on the Square Enix official website.
