2024 is a leap year that occurs once every four years, and at the time of writing this article, February 29, 2024 (Thursday), is Leap Day!
Topics about Leap Day are popping up frequently in media like TV and radio, and in Japan, the 29th is Meat (niku) Day due to a play on words with 2 (ni) and 9 (ku), so while there are usually meat-related campaigns, since it is the once-every-four-years Meat Day, it seems enthusiastic and great-value events are being held. Since it is February 29th, it also appears to be Garlic (ninniku) Day.
As it is a Thursday, many of you are likely at work, but why not head out into the city after work is finished?
While things held on such a Leap Day feel special, speaking of Thursdays, it is also the day for the results announcement of the Famicom National Poll that everyone has been waiting for, isn't it?

The results of Famicom National Poll Vol. 32 "Which Game Features Cats?" have been announced, and the top 20 rankings are public on the Famicom 40th Anniversary Campaign Site!
Since voting started on February 22nd, Cat Day, because 222 sounds like the Japanese sound for a cat meow, it was a theme perfect for Cat Day, and various cat-related titles have ranked in.
Because cats are loved by everyone, there are many famous characters, so there are many titles with original works such as Doraemon, Tama and Friends, Jarinko Chie, Garfield, and Samurai Pizza Cats, which the author also voted for. Due to rights issues, the campaign site is full of NO IMAGE placeholders...
Shining in 1st place amidst the fierce competition was City Connection, capturing 1/4 of the votes with a 25.1% vote share!
If you bump into the cats that appear during a stage, it results in a mistake, and Flohwalzer, known in Japan as Neko Funjatta (lit. I Stepped on the Cat) plays, so many people were likely familiar with it (or held a grudge against it) through their ears.
And MAPPY, which ranked 2nd, also features the police officer protagonist MAPPY whose rivals are the cat burglar Goro and the Meowky cats; perhaps cats often appear as enemies?
By the way, 1st place City Connection and the sequel to the 10th place MAPPY, Mappy-Land, are currently available on Family Computer Nintendo Switch Online, so those who haven't played should definitely check them out!
Furthermore, regarding an episode about CITY CONNECTION CO., LTD, which currently owns the license for City Connection, the president, Yoshikawa's post was selected for the Famicom Heroic Tale segment in Vol. 7 Famicom Talk Shop Kobayashi Toy Store, so those who haven't watched it should check that out as well!

What Will You Make 3 Characters! "Which Game Has a 3-Character Title?" Voting Starts!

The end of Vol. 32 means that Vol. 33 has begun.
Voting for the 33rd Famicom National Poll has started from February 29, 2024 (Thursday)! The theme this time is "Which Game Has a 3-Character Title?".
Vol. 18 last November featured "Which Game Has a 5-Character Title?", so this is the second installment of themes restricted by character count.
During the 5-character theme, there were various interpretations such as whether it was in hiragana/katakana, kanji, or by reading, but it seems even more limited now that the count is 3 characters.
However, since you are all Famicom fans, I'm sure some will pop into your minds, and many people must have slightly clever titles in mind!
The total pool may be quite limited, but please cast your fair vote for a 3-character title you are fond of!
This time too, you can vote from the Famicom National Poll page on the campaign site after logging into your Nintendo Account.
Even if you forget the title, don't worry, as candidates will appear if you enter part of the title.
The voting period for the 33rd Famicom National Poll is short, lasting until March 6, 2024 (Wednesday) at 11:59 PM! The results announcement is scheduled for March 7, 2024 (Thursday)!
The author voted for Athena, the ancestor of Athena Asamiya who is still active in the KOF series and is also called the original SNK heroine!
