Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. has announced that the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 will no longer be able to connect to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, November 13, 2023. Although the PlayStation and X integration will end, users will still be able to share screenshots and game clips via the PlayStation App smartphone app.
PlayStation and X will no longer work together.
Sony Interactive Entertainment updated the Playstation support page on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. The company announced that as of Monday, November 14, 2023, the PlayStation 5 ("PS5") and PlayStation 4 ("PS4") will no longer be able to work with X. As a result, users will no longer be able to view content posted to X on PS5 and PS4, or post screenshots and game clips to X.
The reason for this change was not mentioned, although the API fee for X has forced companies to make a number of choices.
Alternative: "PlayStation App
As an alternative, Sony Interactive Entertainment recommends the use of its own smartphone app, the "PlayStation App" (PS App). The "PS App" can be downloaded from the App Store orGoogle Play, and PS5 supports automatic uploading of screenshots and game clips. Uploaded screenshots and game clips will be stored in the cloud for 14 days and can be viewed on the PS App and shared on social networks within that period.
Game capture sharing after Monday, November 13, 2023, including how to use the PS App, is explained in Playstation Support for both PS5 and PS4.
While it is unfortunate that the X collaboration feature, which allows users to easily share super plays and happenings in games, will no longer be available, the PS App will continue to provide the same or better functionality in the future. Please take this opportunity to download it from theApp Store orGoogle Play and familiarize yourself with its use.
