News

Riot Games has announced that its free-to-play tactical FPS VALORANT is finally coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
A limited beta for players in Japan, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe will go live on June 15, 2024 (JST).

About the VALORANT Console Limited Beta

VALORANT has become one of the most popular titles in the competitive FPS scene, but until now it’s been exclusive to PC—leaving many players saying, “I want to try it, but I don’t have the setup.”
The announcement of a full console release is set to completely change that, opening the doors to a much wider audience.

The beta will be available on:

  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PlayStation 5

The limited beta is scheduled to begin at 5:00 AM JST on June 15, 2024 in the following regions:

  • Japan
  • United States
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom
  • Europe

The service may expand to additional regions over time.

How to Join the Limited Beta

To participate, players must register via the VALORANT Console Limited Beta website.
Selected applicants will receive an email with instructions for accessing the beta.

Those selected will also receive a special referral link, allowing them to invite up to five friends to join the beta as well.
Grab your squad and sign up together!

No Cross-Play With PC

To preserve the game’s competitive integrity—a core pillar of VALORANT—cross-platform competitive play between PC and console is not planned.
However, linking your VALORANT account will allow you to share your inventory and progression across Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.

Future balance patches, new Agents, and other updates will be released simultaneously across all platforms.

Console-Specific Features

To ensure a gameplay experience that mirrors the PC version, the console release introduces a new shooting mechanic called “Focus”.
Focus switches the player into a lower-sensitivity state for precision shots when transitioning from fast camera movement, offering a familiar feel to players who are used to console shooters while maintaining the distinctive value of VALORANT’s ADS system.

PR TIMES
—What’s the goal behind bringing VALORANT to consoles?

We know there are many players interested in VALORANT who simply don’t have the setup to play it. With the console release, we hope to change that. Our aim has always been to deliver the full VALORANT experience—tactical shooter gameplay at its core, the grind to improve your skills, and a means for self-expression. We want to bring the high-quality competitive environment, the unique and well-crafted customization ecosystem, and the vibrant community that values each individual and their skill—all of it—to console players.

PR TIMES
—What changes were made to preserve VALORANT’s competitive integrity on console?

When designing console-specific features, our focus was on making sure players would still experience those “VALORANT moments.” We didn’t want to simply adjust the controls—we aimed to replicate the PC experience as closely as possible. It took extensive trial and error. We analyzed how other games approached the issue, and most importantly, we listened to player feedback. Everyone on the team was determined to craft the best competitive experience possible for controller players. To eliminate any sense of inconsistency or unfairness, we made several gameplay adjustments, including the new Focus mechanic and tuning certain Agent abilities. Some changes were unavoidable—choosing not to support PC/console cross-play was one of them—but it was necessary to maintain the competitive fairness VALORANT is known for.

PR TIMES
—Is there a console feature you’re especially excited for players to try?

Personally, I’m excited about the Focus mechanic. To recreate the PC experience—where players hip-fire by default and use ADS as a secondary tool—we tested countless control configurations and sensitivity options. But on console, hip-fire simply didn’t feel the same, which limited player options and made it hard to match the expressiveness of PC gameplay. Focus was created to solve that problem. It’s a new shooting mode that effectively lets you hip-fire with reduced sensitivity. Players can use standard hip-fire for quick camera movements or when peeking corners, and switch to Focus when they need precise shots—like lining up a clean headshot. We believe it will feel natural to console FPS players while still preserving the gameplay identity of VALORANT’s ADS system.
