Cross-play with the PC version is not supported.
In order to maintain the competitive and fair standards synonymous with VALORANT, there are no plans to support cross-platform play between the PC and console versions of the game. However, it is possible to share inventory and game progress between Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC by linking to a VALORANT account! It has also been announced that future updates, such as balancing patches and new agent additions, will be released simultaneously for all platforms.
Features of the Console Version
A new shooting mode, " Focus," will be added to the game to provide the same gaming experience as the PC version. Focus" is a system that switches from the usual quick viewpoint movement to precision shooting. It is more compatible with those who are used to console FPS games, while maintaining the added value of VALORANT's ADS.
Comments from Arnar Gylfason, Production Director of VALORANT
What is the goal of releasing VALORANT on consoles?
We believe that there are many people who are interested in playing VALORANT, but are unable to do so due to a lack of a good gaming environment. We hope to change that situation by releasing a console version. Our goal was to deliver all the fun of the VALORANT experience. The gameplay as a tactical shooter at its core, as well as the technical development and self-expression. We hope to deliver a team-based competitive environment that prioritizes quality and fairness in matches, an ecosystem of unique and high quality customizable items, and a vibrant community that respects each individual and their skills.
What changes have you made to VALORANT in order to maintain its competitive nature in the console version?
When considering features for the console version, we were conscious of creating "VALORANT moments" on the new platform. We did not simply change the controls, but aimed to create the same game experience as the PC version. It took a lot of trial and error to achieve this. We analyzed how other games had handled it, and we gathered a lot of feedback from people who had played it - that's the most important thing. Everyone was working hard to create the best possible competitive experience for the controllers. We've also made changes to the game to achieve a playing experience that is comfortable and unfair. We also made changes to the game to make it feel more comfortable and less unfair, such as a new "focus" feature that can be toggled as needed, and adjustments to the abilities of the agents. As a result of these improvements, some changes could not be avoided, such as the decision not to allow cross-play between the PC and console versions of the game, which was deemed necessary to meet the fairness of the competition required by VALORANT.
Are there any features of the console version that you would particularly like to share with players?
My personal favorite is the "focus" feature when shooting, as we tried so many different control methods and gamepad sensitivities during development to create a game experience comparable to the PC version - basically hip shooting with ADS as a sub/assist. However, the console version of the game does not have the same feel as the PC version, which limits the options available to the player and prevents the same level of gameplay expression as the PC version. Focus" is the result of this situation. Focus is a new shooting mode that allows the player to "shoot from the hip with reduced sensitivity. Players can choose to shoot from the hip if they need to move the camera/aim quickly (peeking around corners, avoiding utilities), or focus mode if they are aiming for precision shooting (making cool headshots). We think this feature would be very compatible with those who are familiar with the console version of the shooter, and would also maintain the added value that the ADS in VALORANT has.
