ROG Phone 7", the hot smartphone for hot summer!
Many people have the impression that ASUS is all about notebooks and PC parts, but the company also offers a series of high-quality smartphones such as Zenfone and ROG Phone. Of course, they are also available in Japan.
And every year around this time, the ROG Phone series makes me soar with anticipation for new information to come. The previous model, ROG Phone 6, was first experienced at the Tokyo Game Show 2022, but this year, it was announced as early as mid-July. This year, however, it was announced in mid-July and will be released on July 21, 2023 (Friday ), two days after the announcement!

The ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate are the two products and five models that will be released this time. Let's take a look at the basic specs.
Processor and memory that keep up with the latest
The main processor of both products is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the best in its class. This processor is equipped with features such as an AI engine and hardware real-time ray tracing, while also achieving power savings. The memory is LPDDR5X, which is 33% faster than LPDDR5. It may sound like a description of a gaming PC, but it is unmistakably a smartphone.
Perfect Cooling Function
Both PCs and smartphones need to have a power-up cooling function in proportion to their higher performance. Boron nitride heat-conductive grease is applied to the surface of the main processor to release the heat generated by instantaneous high loads. A newly designed vapor chamber and graphite sheet with even better heat treatment performance also aid heat dissipation. The design is designed to withstand long hours of gameplay.
The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is also equipped with the AeroActive Portal, a motorized opening/closing mechanism that allows the powerful cooling air from the well-known external cooling system, AeroActive Cooler 7, to flow directly inside. The AeroActive Cooler 7 is a powerful external cooling system. The AeroActive Cooler 7 can also send cool air to the screen side of the smartphone, enabling comfortable touch operation with less sweaty hands.
High-performance and durable smartphone screen
The ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate are equipped with an ultra-fast-driving AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 165 Hz & a response time of 1 ms. AMOLED stands for Active Matrix OLED, a type of OLED display. Compared to conventional LCD displays, AMOLED displays are more vivid and expressive. In addition, the screen is made of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, which boasts industry-leading robustness as tempered glass for smartphones, minimizing screen cracks and scratches.
Sufficient basic performance as a smartphone
The back of the phone features a 50-megapixel wide-angle main camera, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 5-megapixel macro camera, while the front has a high-resolution 32-megapixel camera. There is also a face recognition feature that is unaffected by the presence of glasses or a mask, and can be used in conjunction with in-screen fingerprint recognition.
In addition, it is IP54 waterproof and dustproof while incorporating a 3.5mm earphone jack. As with the previous model, USB Type-C ports are provided on the bottom and left side of the phone, so the cord does not get in the way when held horizontally. The specs are sufficient to recommend this model not only to gamers, but also to those who want a high-performance smartphone for the time being.
Pre-orders will be accepted sequentially from July 19 (Wed.).
The ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate are available for pre-order starting Wednesday, July 19, 2023. The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate features ROG Vision, a 2.0-inch OLED display on the back that animates when charging and receiving calls. It also comes with the AeroActive Cooler 7 cooling mechanism.
