Review

Pokémon Pokopia is the first authentic slow-life sandbox game in the Pokémon series, planned and developed by The Pokémon Company, Game Freak Inc., and Koei Tecmo Games Co., Ltd.
Since we were invited to an early hands-on event, we experienced the slow living with Pokémon a step ahead of the rest!

(Note: This article is an English translation of the Pokémon Pokopia early hands-on experience held in Hong Kong.)

Pokémon Pokopia arrives as the first authentic slow-life sandbox game in the Pokémon series.
The biggest feature of this title is that the player takes on the challenge of town-building as a Ditto transformed into a human form.
Players can enjoy town-building with Pokémon.

In addition to being able to select a gender, players can finely adjust hair color, skin tone, and more to create a one-of-a-kind Ditto.

The original three starters, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charmander, also appear.
They convey a sense of nostalgia to long-time players and a fresh charm to new players.

You will enrich your life by using the moves you have learned to increase greenery, moisten dry land, and more.

Furthermore, you can cross the sea as Ditto (Lapras transformation) or take to the sky as Ditto (Dragonite transformation).
If Ditto transforms into a Pokémon, Surf and Glide are also possible.

As town-building progresses, encounters with new Pokémon will also increase.
The key to expanding encounters is creating habitats that are easy for Pokémon to live in.
By preparing environments such as forests, grasslands, and watersides, you will be able to encounter various Pokémon.

The experience of Pokémon gathering in a place you created with your own hands is the moment when town-building and adventure become one.

Setting Up Crafting Benches and Fulfilling Wishes

In order to advance the creation of a comfortable town, the crafting bench is an indispensable presence.
Once a bond with a precious Pokémon is formed, next it is time to fulfill the Pokémon's wishes!

Each Pokémon has their own wish, and Ditto collects materials to fulfill them.
When you fulfill a wish, a sense of having directly contributed to the Pokémon's happiness wells up.

For construction, specific materials and the help of a designated Pokémon are essential.
Let's complete it by cooperating with the Pokémon.

Reconstruct the Pokémon Center!

This time, we took on the challenge of reconstructing the Pokémon Center.

The gap where modern items are intentionally mixed into the nature-rich townscape is also an interesting point.

Collecting materials, searching for the right Pokémon for the job, and sometimes even the mishap of getting lost.
At the moment we reconstructed the Pokémon Center and everyone raised a cheer, I felt a certain warmth of having accomplished it together.

Drawing a line from the solo adventures of conventional Pokémon titles, in Pokémon Pokopia, creating together is the true pleasure of this work.

Through network or local communication, up to 4 people can participate in town-building together.
With internet communication with people far away or local communication with people nearby, you can also improve the efficiency of town-building by cooperating!

Slow Life Spent with Pokémon

The Pokémon appearing in this title harbor their own wishes, and the protagonist responds to those wishes.
This intersection of feelings transforms the mission of town-building into irreplaceable bonds and growth together with the Pokémon.
It is not a town built by one person alone, but the memories themselves spent together with the Pokémon.

Doing farm work, collecting materials, and sometimes strolling through town.
In Pokémon Pokopia, the accumulation of every day spent casually together with Pokémon is depicted as the greatest charm.
Not just special events, but daily life itself is a fun experience.

We can hardly wait for the official release of the slow-life sandbox game Pokémon Pokopia.
Details of this title can be confirmed from the official website.
